Superman started in 1937, 60 years before One Piece did, so thats a staggering feat. And it still has some decent battles for a fighting shonen. Plus, you were a kid, and it has ninjas, and a lot of kids like ninjas. The issue with Naruto is that it blunders around too much, and most of the cast is either underutilized, underdeveloped, or thrown away. It consistently shit on its own themes, and just genuinely suffers from a lot of battle manga issues. If you're watching it for fights, it's alright, and even good at moments.
