This board needs more general video game discussion, reading about politics, current events, etc is so boring.
I am obsessed with the Deckbuilding genre more then I am Survivorlikes. Down below, I have included my lists with short summaries and Steam pages for anyone interested in watching trailers or checking out screenshots. Would love if I got someone into a new game.

My favorites:
  • Slay the Spire | We know this as the classic must play deckbuilder | https://store.steampowered.com/app/646570/Slay_the_Spire/
  • Monster Train | This is what I thought was the next best, if not better in its own way. Love the incorporation of the defense element and the perfect cycling between deckbuilding and battling. | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1102190/Monster_Train/
  • Inscryption | Back to basics Yugioh but if your Dungeon Master was a psychopath who kept you locked up to play it. Best story in a DB. | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1092790/Inscryption/
  • One Step from Eden | Megaman Battlenetwork but indie and MMBN is an already expansive a deckbuilding series, minus the Roguelike element. | https://store.steampowered.com/app/960690/One_Step_From_Eden/
  • Luck to be a Landlord | Deckbuilding meets gambling? Each symbol gives a default amount of money used to pay rent after a set amount of spins. Adjacent symbols give bonus gold such as Cat drinks Milk, Bee pollenates Flower, Sun enhances Flower, etc. | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1404850/Luck_be_a_Landlord/
  • Ratropolis | If you have ever played Kingdom/Newlands/2Crowns you will be very familar with this. Essentially, you build a town and waves of enemies attack from the left and right side of your town. You build up defenses, make armies which are assigned to specific walls. Expand your population buy building new homes so you can recruit more soldiers. Different Leaders have different buildings, defenses and units available to them! | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1108370/Ratropolis/
  • Alina of the Arena | There is no better descriptor then Slay the Spire meets Into the Breach. A lot of the cards are cloned straight out of STS but it still makes for great hex-grid gladiator combat | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1668690/Alina_of_the_Arena/

"Must Try" list:
  • Wildfrost | This is the DB I want to play most and all the Indietubers are playing it. The art style looks great. More content is on the way. | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1811990/Wildfrost/
  • Griftlands | This is the second one I want to play most and I know this one probably has the most story out of every deckbuilder. Unlike most DBs this one has a combat deck and a negotiations deck. I know this one will be good because Klei, like Supergiant Games makes nothing but smash-hits. Dont Starve is one of my favorite games of all time and Oxygen not Included was stellar. Rotwood demo was pretty fun! | https://store.steampowered.com/app/601840/Griftlands/
  • Crossblitz | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1619520/Cross_Blitz/

"To Try" list:
  • Fhtagn Simulator | https://store.steampowered.com/app/2050590/Fhtagn_Simulator/
  • Across the Obelisk | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1385380/Across_the_Obelisk/
  • Roguebook | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1076200/Roguebook/
  • Gordian Quest | https://store.steampowered.com/app/981430/Gordian_Quest/
  • Vault of the Void | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1135810/Vault_of_the_Void/
  • Indie lies | This one has the worst reviews by far but I cant help but be allured by the art and boobs | https://store.steampowered.com/app/1638390/Indies_Lies/

Monster Train definitely far and away my favorite. Putting down units and stuff is definitely more my style than the actions used in Slay the Spire. The way it pushes you to break things also appeals.

Saw a new one coming out yesterday that looked like it might be interesting along those lines, Krzyzacy (Polish, apparently), but not sure if it's any good or trying to bank on waifu sex appeal. Curious to know more about it if anyone has tried it.

Across the obelisk is great. I've been really enjoying breach wanderers. I've got it on mobile, but I'm pretty sure there's a steam version too. The at is a little ugly, but the mechanics are fantastic.

I know I lovvveee Monster Train, what your favorite two factions?

I love Nature and devils the most. Though the Abyss hero is amazing. I need to play more of the Candle faction. I always under estimate the power of the ocean clan's spells. I havent tried the wyrm clan yet even though I recently got the DLC.

I will check out Waifu deckbuilder because I am a sucker for titties. Link for anyone interested:

I really wanted to try Across the Obelisk, but the game (Steam version) kept crashing on the very first encounter.

A free game I like to recommend is Pocket Crystal League ++ (basically Pokemon themed Inscryption).

Oh shit, despite playing 120 hours of Eden I have never beat the Shopkeeper. She was hard as balls. I would suggest a video tutorial on youtube. As for Alina, I am not sure because I have only beat the game once and it was with a super broken deck which abused the hell out of the the spear (One that has default pierce and ignores armor), then I got distracted by Luck to be a Landlord.

Favorite two are probably Awoken (nature) and Titans (sea). Really though all of them are fun in different ways, just gotta know how to use their tricks to break the game. The only big complaint I have is if I want to go in and do a certain champion build run, and then the Blacksmith doesn't give me that option.

Wurmkin are fun but kinda unfocused. They've got like 3 different builds they can go for (egg, echo, consume), and they compete with each other more than they gel. Makes them feel kind of feast or famine based on if the cards you get can support what you want to do.

Thanks for checking out Krzyzacy for me. I'm planning to look closer this weekend when I get more time, but haven't had a chance yet.

Oh. I did remember something else meaningful to add here: Dominion. It originated as a tabletop card game, but has since had a couple digital iterations. Very fun PvP deckbuilder, 2-6 players (though you need a few extra base cards to play with more than 4).

The company that makes it has an online client where you can play it, link below. You get access to base game cards for free, and can get access to all other cards for a very cheap subscription fee ($3 a month, I think). If you want to play with friends, only the host needs the sub.
Link: https://dominion.games/

There's also a Steam version. Don't get the Steam version. It's stupidly extensive.

I've played this one. It's actually a good game IDK what all the negative reviews are about.

Here's a long play if you just want to see for yourself.

https://youtu.be/O2jbxO8ZNbk
https://youtu.be/dElFQLTD0vg
https://youtu.be/vCviSFb-SdM
https://youtu.be/7X35VP1rK2I

Some more good ones to check out

  • Phantom Rose: Dark gothic type atmosphere. Instead of shuffling, your cards get cool downs before you can use them again. So you have access to your whole deck at the same time. Phantom Rose 2 is coming soon.
  • Night of the Full Moon: Red Riding Hood reimagined setting. Notable for having a LOT of jobs though they are mostly dlc. It's got great music and the enemies you fight actually have their own decks. You can do things like permanently steal their cards because of it.
  • Rogue Adventure: mobile only kind of a guilty pleasure tbh. Very simplified version of the game with a lot of really unique jobs that all have fun combos, though the best strategies seem to involve getting your deck to 5 cards with one of them deleting itself after playing it so you can spend the whole hand playing the same 4 cards hopefully in an infinite loop or close to it.
  • Heart of Crown: board game adaptation for the pc. I've been playing board game deckbuilders way before STS was ever a thing and there's exactly two that have risen to the top in a distinguished way that I feel invalidates the need to play any others. One is Clank, and the other is Heart of Crown. The rules are similar to Dominion except you have to back a princess to take over for a kingdom who's king died without leaving a male heir. The princesses all have unique abilities and you can't score any points until you back one so get to it!
  • Take Me To The Dungeon!! : I can't link this game here. Just look it up on Steam. It's cheap and surprisingly good. It's pretty easy though. I beat every boss first try except for two which I beat on the second try. I usually had to go back and intentionally lose to the boss.

I'm a big of Dominion which is the board/card game that really popularized the deck building mechanic.

I've played Slay The Spire quite a bit as well as a few of the others you listed like Monster Train, Ratropolis, Griftlands, Across the Obelisk.

I'm a Slay the Spire newb, but I'm probably still doing something wrong then, because the second boss was tanky as fuck until I changed builds, and the third boss was an ordeal cute though, would let her dominate me.

I've heard the last two bosses are RNG-heavy, and I was already struggling pretty hard just reaching the third boss or doing the side dungeon stuff, so I stopped for now.

I was super unprepared for the second to last boss. I'd tried to kill the big one first and that ended up being a mistake. The plan is definitely to kill all the small ones except for the sleeping one then the big one, then the sleeping one.

The sleeping one doesn't wake up until you hit it.

I mean I will check it out at severe discount someday . I just have such a large backlog right now, titty deck builder isn't on the list of priorities.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

That's actually a common sentiment. A lot of people were a bit disappointed, including myself to find that part two was so different. But it's worth it to push through because part 3 is a bit better but it's the story that really saves it. Also, 80% of my 75 hours played of the game are in Kaycees mod (game mode not an actual mod), where it's just playing part 1, minus the story and some extra cards, and nerfs to a few strategies like soul cards.

MuscleRobo posted...

Are you weeb like me? Going for something just because it's Japanese doesn't mean you will have the best experience. I would go for one of the better known ones rather than some obscure Japanese made deck builder.

You should start with babies first deck builder instead of going for the one that looks like a AAA game. Slay the Spire or Monster Train are both excellent.

Also what's MGAc!D? I tried googling it but nothing showed up. I know MMBN though, I beat all six games back in the day and have been replaying it since the collection came out (currently done with 2/6).
