Assume standard gear and mainstream adaptations all around. No prep time.

Even with his skeleton, a few rounds from a bolter would probably put him down.

Cyclops could probably do it. I know people wank the laser power to absurdity sometimes but he doesn't have much else going for him.

cyclops? ygtbfkm

also wolverine as a "weak" superhero? idk about that. he's very fast and could potentially get close enough. his claws can definitely slice through ultramarine armor. he's got a 50/50 chance.

batman would definitely take out an ultramarine.

Because his "laser power" is indeed absurd.

Probably batman, since he does have access to Wayne Corp's military contracts and technology from them. There is probably something he can use from there that can at least stop the space marine.

On top of that, he is arguably the type that can be harder for one to deal with, as while it is very hard to get a proper jump on one due to their overtweaked combat traits, Batman is the sort who is good at dealing with things using stealth and indirect attacks. And whatever gadgets he gets specifically to try and counter the marine's armor and defense systems will effectively be the strongest thing he has, but will also be very situational when compared to a more easy-to-use-anywhere superpower.

That said, it is an ultrasmurf we are talking about, so he may need to basically call in the entirety of Wayne Enterprises' military industrial complex to deal with one. Unless he gets lucky and paints them green instead of blue, so that they stop being so dang lucky.

Huh? Wait, lucky? Crap, the Earth now has an ork infestation and has just finished construction on its first gargant and started construction on a number more in addition to having a proper WAAAGH vehicles and forces of smaller description going now.

Which super hero team or organization can stop this budding Ork invasion? The single ultra-marine is allowed to help if they are still alive.

Oh, and to make matters worse, a rift into the warp has appeared and some guy named Trigon has just stepped out of it. It is now a three way battle between heroes +1 single marine, da orks, and Trigon.

A normal person with a lucky shot can beat a Space Marine. It happens occasionally in official fiction. So technically any of them could do it, it's a matter of the probability of them succeeding.

When the 50/50 goes in the superhero's favor then.

sort of unrelated, but if I were looking to get into 40k lore from the beginning, where would I start?

I would just read one of the better regarded books like the Eisenhorn omnibus. A more actual beginning would be Horus Rising I suppose, but Horus Heresy is more like a prequel series and primarily focussed on the Imperium. You can also just read a wiki to get a basic overview on a lot of stuff.

Surprisingly, this might be a decent start to learning about it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkrC5BmPhTc

Followed by looking up some lore on what the warp is, since it is fairly integral to knowing how the setting works, and then maybe just looking at one on how the Imperium is structured.

Then, just look up lore on the orks and decide that it is much more fun learning about them until you glean enough information about other things that show up in their lore to then watch lore videos on each of the other non-human factions in the setting. Save the tyranid video for when you are hungry and a pizza has just arrived. Hearing about a hive mind that wants to eat everything tends to make one hungry.

Now, having learned a bit about the other stuff, you can then go back to actually learning about the Imperium of Mankind, who has the most lore and the most detailed lore. But thanks to the lore surrounding each other race, you now know at least what questions to ask and search for to find out this and that about Imperium stuff.

And then, you are finally ready. Watch the fan series "If the emperor had TTS."

Alternatively, you can start watching TTS basically any time after a couple ork videos. You'll miss some of the fun, but it does delve quite well into a... comedic truncated overview of things, especially with regards to how the Imperium works.

...It will be around this time that a strange feeling motivating you to occasionally consider getting miniatures and finding people to play the tabletop stuff with. You may wish to start by just looking into video games first.

Kill Team is actually a good and affordable choice for a 40k miniature game. Necromunda is also not bad. The main game is extremely expensive, time consuming, and not even fun to play. Maybe Epic scale will return to 40k again (currently being rebooted for Horus Heresy timeline), which is actually fun to play, more affordable, and fixes the obvious scale issue (you have a battlefield a couple hundred meters long at most and are trying to cram giant robots, tanks, and aircraft in there).
