For what it's worth, the literal Nazi's made it a super big deal that physical fitness was very important. In fact, they said it was your duty to be fit and healthy for the Reich.

That doesn't mean every fitness nut was a Nazi... but there was a good chance that if you were a Nazi you were also a fitness nut, as that's literally what was commanded of you by your leaders.

Who could have ever imagined that a bunch of people who use strong arm tactics and military power to enforce their ideas of racial supremecy and impose their toxic, alpha tough guy bullshit on people would also hit the gym. I'm completely shocked, I tells ya!
The Nazis in general were obsessed with the Spartans. To them they perceived them as an ideal to follow and viewed the Spartans as Aryan ubermensch who ruled over an enslaved foreign population, the helots. Part of the Spartan upbringing was to engage in general fitness, as part of ideal citizen values, and there was an encouragement for both men and women to partake on physical activities. Mind you, for women it was because the Spartans believed that would make newborn children stronger and healthier. Fitness was for people to be able to endure the strains of war rather than for aesthetics or specialization.

In general the new orthodoxy on Sparta sees the Spartans as professional rich people rather than warriors and part of the Greek ideals of the leisure class was the privilege to train your body for war. According to Classical era sources, Plato, Aristotle and Xenophon, most rich men didn't uphold this standard, Plato compares the pale, fat rich man used to living in the shade to the tanned and fit farmer standing right next to each other in the phalanx.

The nazis adored this model and copied it which I think goes back to the Prussians.

In fairness to Hitler (which I hate that I have to say that) in his day he was a dangerous streetfighter. Dude carried around a dogwhip and would throw down in the streets in the early days of the movement and leading up to the failed putsch.

It's just one of those things that people who had fought in and survived that war were on a different level of physical bravery. Once you've charged across the fields of the western front and cleared trenches and had dudes try and shoot, stab, or bash your head with an entrenching tool, fighting in the street with fists and clubs didn't really seem that scary to them.

Rogan isn't half as dumb as he claims. He uses it as a way to avoid consequences. He has been around too long to play ignorant and get away with it. He is corrected on subjects all the time, given more information and then turns around on the next show and acts like he was never told anything.

Well, that is the difference between ignorance and stupidity. Ignorance is being wrong because you honestly don't know something you've never learned about, stupidity is being told something is wrong, and then just continuing to do it even though you've been told better.

I think it can be both that he really is stupid and he also realizes how he can use that as a convenient excuse. It's what Trump tries to do fairly often.

"The far right's obsession with puppies" =/= anyone who has an obsession with puppies is far right. It's for what reasons the far right in particular would have an obsession with "(insert person place or thing)". Can't believe this went over so many right wing heads in that thread. Scratch that, I can believe it.
