pedophilia rape tragedy that's been happening all around us even as I type this post up.

Throughout the 60s all the way to the modern era 1.2% of priests have been abusing little boys (and yes sometimes even little girl) around not just Boston area but all throughout America, even the entire world, and the church has known about it and kept quiet. It's just something we've been knowing while going about out daily day as if it was nothing.

The movie has powerful performances from Mark Ruffalo, solid performances from Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, and I particularly liked Liev Schreiber, his character is one I was drawn to.

Throughout the movie the reporters uncover more and more of these horrible events and talk to the victims who struggle with what they went through and the trust that was broken. Until they finally reveal the story to the whole world.

Priests abusing children has been going on since pre-Christian times. Probably since religion existed.

What makes child abuse in Christian churches especially abhorrent is that they are supposedly founded upon principles which would forbid it.

It's a brilliant movie that, yes, was infuriating to watch.

Wonder what it meant when they showed 9/11, and the fact that they postponed breaking the story because 9/11 tragedy overshadowed all other tragedies? Kinda dark

Predator priests rarely face justice. The church keeps it secret if they can. It gets handled in house and they never go to the cops. Sometimes they just move the priest to a new area

I'm not even shocked that those types would try to rationalize it, even murderers and psychopaths use rationalization, its crazy what people tell themselves to make it ok like "you don't want to undo all the good work the church does for the community"

A simultaneously sadder and angrier example is the other rapist who went "well, I was abused too, so..."

I heard the Catholic Church chose to publish more male on male abuse cases than male on female abuse cases to frame a narrative that it's because of gay people

It's kind of perfect for them, assure people are safe at the church, bring your kids it's safe for them also, priest/preacher/pastor is automatically a "good person" in most Christian eyes so no concern trusting them with their kids.

It's a pedo ring where people willingly bring their kids to them, it's pretty insane.
