The worst worked punches are ones that look fake, but actually hurt.

That's why my favorite matches are the ones where the Wrestlers actually connect.

WALTER vs Dragunov are some of my favorites.

Actors don't get their backs impaled full of taks or film with broken foot
There are multiple examples of actors that have filmed with injuries and even died in some cases.
Peter Sellers was supposed to play 4 roles in Dr. Strangelove, but an injury forced him to only play 3 roles.
Tom Hanks filmed Castaway with a staph infection in his leg.
Sylvester Stallone wanted the fighting scenes in Rocky IV to look as real as possible, so he asked Dolph Lundgren to forget the choreography and just go out there and try to clock me." He ended up in the ICU for 9 days.
While filming Bruised, Halle Berry got kicked by her costar Valentina Shevchenko, an actual MMA fighter, and broke two of her ribs. She completed the scene.
Ashton Kutcher gave himself pancreatitis and was hospitalized twice while preparing to play Steve Jobs in Jobs.
While filming a scene in Black Swan, Natalie Portman dislocated one of her ribs. She finished the scene.
While filming Mission Impossible 6, Tom Cruise broke his ankle while leaping from one building to another, and he continued to run on it just so he could finish the stunt.
Dylan O'Brien fell off a moving vehicle and was hit by another vehicle that was following behind while he was filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure. He ended up with a concussion, facial fracture and lacerations, and mental trauma after the accident.
Margot Robbie trained in ice skating for five hours a day, five days a week, for five months to play Tonya Harding in I, Tonya she worked herself so hard she got a herniated disk in her neck.
While filming My Left Foot, Daniel Day-Lewis refused to get out of his character's wheelchair and sat hunched over all the time. He ended up breaking two ribs from sitting in that position for so long.
Michelle Yeoh tore her ACL and needed surgery after running across a rooftop for a scene in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She had to keep working during her recovery and explained, "If you watch the movie you see me walking slowly. Thats because I had a big brace under those baggy trousers. It took me three months to recover."
While filming Gangs of New York, Daniel Day-Lewis caught pneumonia because he refused to wear a warmer coat in between scenes since those same coats didn't exist in the 1860s.
Jeremy Renner fell 20 feet and broke both of his arms on the third day of filming Tag. Jeremy returned to set that afternoon with removable casts so they could stay on schedule and finish the movie. For some scenes, they even used CGI to remove the casts from his arms.
Gary Oldman gave himself nicotine poisoning after smoking $20,000 worth of Winston Churchill's favorite cigars for Darkest Hour.
During his career as an action star, Jackie Chan has broken pretty much every body part imaginable, he even has a hole in his head.

Wrestling is filming a live action fight scene with no stunt doubles and minimal safety nets, and no extra takes. I wouldn't call it fake personally as that cheapens it, but it is choreographed and rehearsed for safety.

No, they're standard store bought Steel Folding Chairs.

Nothing special about them, those Steel Folding Chairs aren't nearly as tough & durable as you think they are.

Pick up a steel chair and hit someone in with it as hard as you can.Theyll either turn around and kick your a$$ or fall to the ground in tears.

Lightubes and barbed wire cause serious long term damage. Sabu has scars all over his body from all the barbed matches he was in and some guy in an indie fed nearly died when a lightube nearly caused him to bleed to death.

If you swing for the fences, yes anybody will probably be pissed or go down in tears. You're hitting them with a giant blunt instrument.

That's why you hold your power to a reasonable level usually 25% of your maximum power is good enough when you swing, you need to be in control of how much power you're delivering to your opponent.

Lightubes and barbed wire cause serious long term damage. Sabu has scars all over his body from all the barbed matches he was in and some guy in an indie fed nearly died when a lightube nearly caused him to bleed to death.
That's why you try to avoid matches dealing with sharp or pokey things.

I concur, blading is absolutely unnecessary in Pro Wrestling, there are enough things in the world that will cut you open, you don't need to assist it to make it happen via blading.

If you bleed naturally, so be it.

But if you aren't, that's fine too.

Sadly a lot of average people think wrestling is pure acting and don't realize how dangerous it is and how much of a toll it takes on wrestlers bodies especially with the insane schedule they put up with.

Speaking of which we haven't even touched on concussions which is an actual uncomfortable conversation if you know about Harley Race, Dynamite Kid, and especially Chris Benoit.

Watching Mick Foley and Kurt Angle talk nowadays you can tell their mental capacity isn't quite right

Vince is a complete PoS but in some fairness in regards to concussions back then we weren't as aware to long term effects as we are now. Both WWE and NFL have taken measures to greatly reduce the risk/frequency of concussions

When the Benoit murders-suicide happened everybody and their brother thought it was an effect of roid rage. It wasn't until former wrestler and legit Harvard graduate Christopher Nowinski urged for Benoit to have an autopsy on his brain did we learn how badly concusssions messed him up.

80s wrestling was great because sometimes theyd go off script Ric Flair has mentioned this before.

I remember one time Terry Funk branded someone FOR REAL after a match (this big, handsome blonde dude). He acted knocked out until that hot brand he got up and ran straight to the locker room (I dont think I ever saw him again lol). Needless to say the announcers sounded legitimately disgusted and they cut to an early break and I dont think Terry Funk got to come back after that.

There's no real way to teach that, you just have to watch alot of tapes and analyze the best way to minimize damage on the way down.

Short of being in a Ladder match, you can only do so much to prepare for the real thing.

Luckily, there's no shortage of "Tables / Ladders / Chairs" matches that currently exist that you can't study to learn something from.

You'll either learn "What to do" or "What not to do!"

But you noticed how smaller guys like the Hardy Boys changed the Pro Wrestling game and "Big Guys" don't dominate the scene anymore.

It's a far more "Balanced" Pro Wrestling environment where smaller guys can succeed.

Also, Hogan suffers serious back pain issues from doing all those leg drops over the years, he's had countless surgeries to fix his back problems.

Same with acting, you don't have to be the most attractive people to succeed now, people can get by on actual acting talent.

Uh. This is severely downplaying hogan.

Yeah being big helped, but Hogan worked. He was charismatic as hell, a strong promo, usually had solid psychology in the ring, and did tons of "out of the ring" work for WWF.

WWF spent a very long time trying out muscle bound big guys to "be the next Hogan". They failed a lot more than they came close to succeeding.

(Also "just dropping the leg" severely fucked up his back.)
