Most non-school shootings are already being committed with sears. And guess what? Those are illegal. What's the difference.

The extremely vast majority of shooting deaths aren't mass shootings as you think of them anyway.

Yeah, but it was 200$ in 1934. And today that would be $4607.98, per the inflation calculator from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Guys like Capone used the Thompson as much as a status symbol as anything else. Capone was more interested in saying "I'm so fucking rich I can afford a bunch of these for my guys" than just having the full auto. All things given, he probably could have found some cheaper full auto guns if he looked just from bribing a guy at the local armories, though my attempt at fact checking that statement just gave me links about modern gun laws. The best I can find is a mass production M1919 Browning machine gun was about 60$ cheaper.

I mean, I'm pretty sure the French troops in WWI didn't want the Chauchat, and it's not really got a huge collector market because it's renowned as "garbage."

And I'll be honest, I didn't find the catalog page unfortunately, I just googled the price in 1934 for a number to put into the calculator.

Nobody wanted the Chauchat. Not even the German troops who overrun France.

It's just a "historical curiosity" that you need a $10000 tax stamp to own in the US.
