This is something a job I applied for actually just told me this morning. Like no, homie. I'm going to take the other offer where I actually know what I'm being paid before agreeing to work for you.

Yeah, I've been around the block enough to professionally tell these types of businesses to find another sucker.

I was going through the interview process for a job, and they got to the question of salary. I threw out a number I felt was fair (basically just slightly higher then I was making at my current job), and the interviewer blankly stared at me and said "We all make about $30K a year less then that..." I just got up, said "You should probably do something about that" and left. All my friends were amazed when I told them how little they were willing to pay.

I would walk out of the interview if they said that to me, you know it's minimum wage if they say that

lol I just had the opposite experience, I threw out a number and the interviewer was like "uh, our minimum pay is 10k more than that"

There really is no "industry standard" for the most part, there are some pretty wild variances from place to place

Had a place do that to me, except I was going back to help out a few years after I'd quit and had worked there for 5 years. It was insulting.

There are a lot of sites that you can look up the position your are applying to and get an average for your position and area (area is important since cost of living varies greatly from one place to another). I tend to use Glass Door, since they also allow you to get it by company as well. Plus great place to look up reviews for the company you are planning to work for.

I personally see no issue with being paid minimum wage depending the job. However yeah in the TCs case this seems weird that they don't discuss pay before you start training.
