Senior year of high school Beer, nothing specific, though I had gotten into making my own booze and developed an affinity for dry ciders during those last few years. I had a health scare shortly before my 30th birthday and made a bunch of huge life changes over the next year or so that inadvertently addressed my lifelong struggle with poor mental health. That brought me up to what was objectively the best my life had ever been. I no longer needed to self-medicate with alcohol but trying to quit only resulted in me drinking even more. Prior to that, I either didn't care about self-destruction or actively sought it. Without that obscuring what alcohol was really doing to me, I was forced to accept that I was never in control. I have a slightly elevated enzyme count that my doctor monitors at my yearly physical but he's not too worried about it.
