Does that surprise you?

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/2023-06-13/study-links-lgbt-populations-to-state-economic-growth

https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/equality/4052176-states-with-more-lgbtq-people-have-better-economic-growth/

Higher proportions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens is associated with higher economic growth in U.S. states, a new study from Wells Fargo shows.

The study looked at the growth rates of gross state product, or GSP, for all states from 2010-2019 and LGBT population shares in 2012. It found that having a higher LGBT population share was associated with more pronounced economic growth in states across the nation.

What we found is the degree of overrepresentation or underrepresentation of the LGBT population was positively correlated with state economic growth, says Jay Bryson, chief economist on the study, referring to how much higher or lower the population share of LGBT people was compared with the national average.

There are a host of factors that can contribute to a states economic growth, the report recognizes, including employment growth, unemployment rate, median wage and corporate tax rate. But the study continued to find a positive correlation between higher-than-average LGBT representation and GSP growth even when all else was equal.

The study authors were also careful to account for age and educational attainment, because LGBT people are more likely to be younger and more highly educated.

What do these findings mean? For Bryson, its a call for more research.

States that are interested in lifting their economic growth rates, I think, should take this research as an interesting finding and perhaps try to dig in a little bit more about whats really going on here, he says.

According to polling from Gallup, almost 20% of Generation Z respondents reported being a member of the LGBT community in 2022, compared with 11.2% of millennials, 3.3% of Gen Xers, 2.7% of baby boomers and 1.7% of members of the Silent Generation.

Experts have noted that this rise across generations is likely partially attributable to awareness and representation.

I'd be very curious to see is a causation is found. I imagine it's simply the fact that states focused so much on discriminating against people make tons of other stupid decisions rather than improving things.

That's actually a really good point. Discrimination costs more than inclusion? I could see that.

Obviously not a direct cause/effect relationship and instead correlated with other factors in a web of cause and effect, like being in proximity to higher education, being more urban and populous, being more liberal, being younger, being tech centers, etc.

Yeah. It's simply a case of the states not being restrictive dick canoes and thereby being better places to live.

Its like any other twisted or misleading stat line. States with high LBGT are literally the states with the best economies in the first place for many reasons, anyone can associate with economic growth and not provide much depth for a headline.

The map even shows it, California and New York and directly adjacent states. The financial powers of the nation where all the money is made and the surrounding places where the people spend that money.

But Texas had a higher GDP than New York last year, Vermont had the one of the lowest but LGBT population grew, and Pennsylvania's population shrank despite being directly next to New York

Overall, in the calendar year 2022, the United States' Nominal GDP at Current Prices totaled at $25.463 Trillion, as compared to $23.315 Trillion in 2021.
The three U.S. states with the highest GDPs were California ($3.6 Trillion), Texas ($2.356 Trillion), and New York ($2.053 Trillion). The three U.S. states with the lowest GDPs were Vermont ($40.6 Billion), Wyoming ($47.4 Billion), and Alaska ($63.6 Billion).

2010-2019

Id be interested to see the numbers post pandemic. I think like a million people have fled California for places like Texas since then as of 2023. Their economy *was* booming in 2019. New York has lost about a million citizens and billions of tax revenue in the past five years too.

I don't think we should buy into too much to the premise that the amount of rights people deserve are at all correlated with or relevant to their economic output. That said, this is good. Wildly disproportionate amounts of American art and culture come from LGBT people.

I think this just about Blue States (which are pro-LTGBQ) are still trying to educate their citizens while Red States are literally trying to kill education and keep everyone as stupid and ignorant as possible.

The gap is just going to keep growing also. We will have Red States where the average education is 6th grade pretty soon. And then they will bitch about not finding jobs because employers want employees that can figure out how to use a doorknob.

Cities more like it. Like Oregonwest coast along the I-5 corridor, blue, liberal, very diverse.

The rest of the state, sans 2-3 countieswell, theyd like to secede from Oregon and join Idahoall 12 of them feel that way. John, Mary, John Jr., etc. They are way out numbered and sincerely hate that.

As a leftist Texan, we build our whole identities around being the few people who vocally hate Texas in Texas. To say that a leftie Texan would be more likely to defend the state than a conservative is an illiterate take and as we've already seen, anyone without Anarchy-brain agrees.

Why does rabid anti-leftism always cook people's brains?

Okay I might be misunderstanding your argument/hypothesis - you said "States with high LBGT are literally the states with the best economies" and "The map even shows it, California and New York and directly adjacent states" correct? But you feel Texas doesn't count as "best economy" because while their GDP is higher than NY their expenditure is less (9k per capita versus CA 13k and NY 15k) and their GDP per capita is less than NY & CA?
