A veteran GOP political strategist has described Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as the "worst" presidential candidate he has ever seen.

Jeff Timmer, a senior adviser at the Lincoln Project, a Republican PAC consisting of Donald Trump critics, made the claim while tweeting out a clip of DeSantis suggesting he would try to abolish four federal agencies if elected president as part of his battle against the "woke" agenda.

Speaking to Fox News' Martha MacCallum, DeSantis said he would be "in favor" of eliminating the Education, Commerce and Energy departments and the IRS once in the White House.

"So if Congress will work with me on doing that, we'd be able to reduce the size and scope of government," said DeSantis, who polls show lagging far behind former President Trump in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

"But what I'm also going to do is be prepared if Congress won't go that far, I'm going to use those agencies to push back against woke ideology and against the leftism we see creeping into all institutions of American life."

While sharing the clip, Timmer tweeted: "Ron DeSantis is the worst candidate I've ever seen.

"It's like he's been assembled from the discarded spare parts of Bobby Jindal, Bill de Blasio, Rick Perry, and Scott Walker," Timmer said. Jindal, Perry and Walker, the former governors of Louisiana, Texas and Wisconsin respectively, as well as former New York City Mayor de Blasio, all unsuccessfully ran for president.

In 2011, Perry infamously failed to name all three of the federal agencies he wanted to abolish if elected president during a live GOP primary debate.

After declaring that there will be "three agencies of government, when I get there, that are gone," Perry named Commerce and Education, before adding "what's the third one there?"

After being asked by CNBC moderators if he could remember the name of the third department he wanted to abolish, Perry took a brief look through his notes before adding: "I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops."

Prior to his work on The Lincoln Project, Timmer spent 30 years working in various aspects of the Republican Party, including serving as an adviser to former Ohio Governor John Kasich's 2016 presidential campaign, and as executive director of the Michigan Republican Party.

Timmer is also the co-founder of the Republicans and Independents for Biden campaign group.

DeSantis, who made turning Florida into a place where "woke goes to die" a major part of his 2022 gubernatorial re-election promise, previously vowed to defund some government agencies if elected president during his official 2024 campaign announcement on Twitter Spaces.

"I think there's a lot that the executive branch can do. And I will say when it comes to these agencieswe'll go into this a little bit more as the campaign goes onbut buckle up when I get in there, because the status quo is not acceptable," DeSantis said in the error-strewn May stream.

"We are going to make sure that we constitutionalize this government, and these agencies are totally out of control. There's no accountability and we are going to bring that in a very big way."

DeSantis' office has been contacted for comment via email.

I'm still deeply concerned that DeSantis has even fraction of a chance of actually making it to the White House, but my biggest fear with him was that he'd be able to sell himself as the 'sane, reasonable' alternative to Trump; thankfully DeSantis wasted no time in pissing all over this potential advantage once he stepped onto the national stage in earnest.

Pence and Christie are both non-candidates.

Well, DeSantis is too, but he's making a much bigger scene. Pence and Christie will do nothing and then drop out after getting 2% of the vote in Iowa or something like that.

DeSantis had a lot of momentum before any actual presidential stuff was happening because it looked like Trump was crashing and burning, and DeSantis was trying to steal a lot of those talking points with "generic politician" vibes that would allow more "normal" people who only voted Trump out because he was insane. Theoretically, DeSantis would be chill enough for these people to not bother voting and Republicans could finish the fascist takeover of America.

But DeSantis is like octupling down on culture war stuff without any actual stuff to back it up, making him just a shit Trump clone but worse in every way. Which just begs the question of "why even bother with DeSantis when there's still Trump?"

He's 100% only here to be fed to Trump to try to give Trump some actual momentum going into a presidential run - especially if Trump will be running from a cell. IMO So are most of the GOP candidates.

Christie is the only GOP candidate with an actual plan to beat Trump. He's attacking Trump every chance he gets, differentiating himself from Trump. Everyone else is asking primary voters to vote for someone who is like Trump, but not Trump when voters can just vote for Trump himself. Granted, Christie's plan isn't gaining him any traction, but it's at least an actual plan that on paper could work.

On the contrary, I think he gets way more attention than he should from major media outlets, who are overinflating his clout. But the good news (in terms of DeSantis' electability, or lack thereof) is that average people aren't giving him as much attention as Trump simply because DeSantis isn't remotely as interesting or exciting as Trump.

DeSantis would be a garbage president whod waste billions of dollars(which we wont be able to pay for cause no IRS) attacking companies and people because they are woke(defined as said or did something DeSantis didnt like)and hes trying to make sure everyone knows it. Thats not normally a good idea when trying to get elected.

He's pretty terrible, even beyond the fascist conservative stuff. Dude's only value is being a MAGA guy who knows how to suck up to party insiders and donors. He has no political instincts regarding the general public whatsoever.
