My In-Laws just tried to use my Netflix at their house and they got locked out.

For those curious, it's an extra $8 a month to add a 2nd location to an account.

I guess cheaper then having them get their own account, but Netflix is barely worth the $20 they're banging me for now.

I mean I get why Netflix is doing it. I'd do it too if I were them, because it's the right business decision. Still annoying though. And if it ends up fucking me over when I travel I will be very annoyed.

I do have a question though. Why am I still able to watch netflix at my office when my residence is 30 minutes away and is the designated "primary household"?

Other steaming service will eventually follow. Netflix is essentially the trend starter. The fact that there was news reports that their subscriber base only went up even after the password sharing thing will only incentive them. But for now, most don't even have the subscriber base close to Netflix numbers and the last thing they want to do is piss off the ones they already have.

I believe it'll depend on the device you use, because I was reading that as long as you log-in on your "home" network every 30 days, the device you use can access Netflix wherever.

I honestly think that's what I'm going to end up doing, if I can convince my wife.

I really don't watch a ton of TV to begin with, and there's rarely anything I feel I MUST see that I'd need to keep my Netflix account.

It's fucked up because Netflix explicitly advertised paying into higher screen count to share with others before.
Now they wanna add extra superfluous charges and this shit is working because people are now buying more fucking accounts.

That's the part that bothers me the most, as their "Premium" level was made so you could share with multiple screens, regardless of location.

It's like selling someone a car, and then charging them extra for letting someone else drive it.

why is CE so against pirating videogames but doesn't see the issue with account sharing? You can't vouch for supporting videogame developers but refuse to give money to streaming services at the same time.

here's a list of anime I'm watching this season:

Hell's Paradise
Heavenly Delusion

anime I've dropped:
My Best Friend Is Clueless

The other services have no incentive too right now. They are nowhere near market saturation yet. Their goal is just getting non-users to become subscribers. They don't really care if they are sharing. Hell, with the market leader being expensive and not allowing sharing, account sharing is a competitive advantage for the other guys.

The reason Netflix has finally started cracking down on sharing is because they had run out of new subscribers. Anyone who was going to subscribe to Netflix either already does or is borrowing an account. They don't have truly new users left. That's why they are turning inward towards users who don't pay. None of the other services are even remotely big enough to have that issue yet.

The distinction is meaningless with digital streaming. It's not like Netflix has to drive a truck across state lines to deliver the movies.

So much this. The company APPROVED sharing for years, and even pushed multiple screens as a way to keep the sharing going. Now they get greedy and wanna charge more? Nope.

The complaint, for the most part, are things like "I share my account with my parents/sibling/girlfriend who live across town/in another city/state". Just the fact that the original agreement was "X amount of screens, regardless of where they are" and now they are changing it when they were no longer comfortable with how rampant password sharing was.

Yep. They went from

https://twitter.com/netflix/status/840276073040371712?lang=en

To not wanting people to share passwords at all outside of a household unless they paid an extra fee.

It wouldn't be so bad if they untethered streaming quality from number of screens per household. But unless they've changed it, you still need to get 4 screens in a household if you want 4K.

It's a fucked up world we're going into.
