GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C.
As Pride Month comes to a close, the Greenville County Library Board of Trustees has approved a new rule some find controversial regarding library displays.

The board voted unanimously Monday to have their library branches take down all displays by the end of the week.

Though there were a few exceptions to this rule, most of them expire by the end of the month anyway. No new displays will go up, unless it's a general display about library events or new materials that have been approved, until the end of September.

According to emails we received through the Freedom of Information Act, last week a Travelers Rest library branch employee refused to take down a Pride Month display in the main lobby, saying over email that it was in keeping with current guidelines.

Monday afternoon, several people responded to the new rule.

Upstate South Carolina LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce CEO Tyler Prescott said the LGBTQ+ community has the right to be represented at their community library.

I mean, I'm gay but don't see a HUGE deal with this. Clearly a silly conservative power move, yes, but I'd be more concerned if they weren't allowed to put up the displays in the first place.
