Yeah. Otherwise usually it's when you hover over the save to be loaded in the load menu but I don't know if this one does that

I'm a few hours in. So far, I'm really liking it from a story perspective. The characters are interesting, the world seems fleshed out, and of course the visuals and music and cinematography are top of the line.

Not terribly bothered by how linear the first couple hours are. It's the introductory chapters and I just got to the first full big open zone so I don't feel like the whole game is going to be hallways.

Combat so far is smooth and responsive. I like that I have a few different combo options with only a couple of basic unlocks from the skill tree. That being said, the game is definitely lacking in complexity in the beginning when you only have phoenix. I'm a big fan of spectacle games like bayonetta, devil May cry, ninja gaiden, etc, so I'm willing to admit my standard for mechanical complexity is probably a lot higher than your average final fantasy fan, but I'm really hoping that I start to get more tools soon or it's going to eventually feel repetitive.

Getting the other skills like the jump off of enemy and slam down can really extend your combos which is where the depth comes in. It also gets a lot better when you get other eikon skills to switch back and forth to. You learn how one is focused on juggling and the other for raw beat down and switching styles on the fly enhances the game considerably

The thing is, it seems like mechanical complexity is slowly exposed as you level up to ease people into the system.

Like, you can just mash square, but you should also be getting into the habit of weaving in a triangle in between each square. If you time it right you basically get a fireball in between each sword strike.

Then, if you unlock the dash ability (not the Phoenix one, the one in the skill tree) and then upgrade the flame sword ability, you can actually hold down square while you're dashing and your flame sword will be ready as soon as you get to the enemy for a real big one two punch.

The game also is clearly taking a page out of the ff7 remake where different moves have different stagger multipliers, meaning the ideal chain for dealing damage isn't necessarily the same ideal chain for building stagger.

And all of this is just with the first eikons. I just unlocked and assist NPC that I can issue commands to in combat, and I don't know yet whether those assist attacks have stun such that I can start to chain multiple combos together using it as a linker.

All in all, I could definitely feel the mechanical complexity lying just below the surface. My fear is that the game will take way too long to make that sort of complexity necessary in combat for all the final fantasy fans who aren't used to action games, making it feel overly simple for far too long of the runtime.

With Phoenix, try charge sword, charge magic. When you hit with a ground charge sword, hit the enemy sent flying with the charged magic (this requires a bit of experience as there's a specific timing). As soon as you hit with the charged magic, sent Torgal to bite the enemy. If done correctly, he'll flash red and keep the enemy mid air. You can then follow up with a Phoenix dash into an aerial combo. You can use the enemy jump ability to cancel mid combo and keep it going. You can also hit an aerial enemy with a charged sword attack in order to send them flying upwards and extend the combo as well. Oh, and you can use Torgal at pretty much any point too.

I think the further you go in, the more the combat evolves and this will make it all the more necessary for new game plus Fantasy mode which has new enemies and a lot of changes and keeps your levels, allowing you to get to 100.

Its easy, sure, but that's what fantasy mode is for, I think. Plus there's arcade mode where you have to try and get a great score so it'll have you testing your mettle.

Okay dying and beating an enemy are two very different outcomes. Beating enemies does not recharge you, while dying does

They needed to include the hardest difficulty from the start cause action focused is okay but needs a bit more

I'm still relatively early (I think) and just unlocked limit break. I posted this in another thread so I'm paraphrasing here.

I'm enjoying the game a lot. I for sure have some issues but maybe they will get resolved as the game opens a bit. The things I read in reviews kind of worried me with some shit but some of it was overblown. However, there are some things that I am just not enjoying and I feel take away from the game but I want to give it more time before I fully start complaining. But as of now the leveling of skills seems mostly useless, treasure seems mostly useless, new equipment seems useless except for adding +5 to your stats each time you upgrade or something.

Things I read that I thought would bug me but surprisingly don't:
The sidequests. Yes I've had to do two food delivery quests so far, but it seems like each quest does a good job of showing you a little more lore or filling in some small gaps. At the end of each quest so far (and there's been like 10 maybe) I learn a little bit.

Areas being linear: I was mostly agreeing it was getting annoying. Then I got to the area with Martha's Rest and while it's still pretty linear it isn't a straight line from Point A to Point B. There's some wilds to explore. Now the treasures you find while exploring those is another issue. It does seem like every time I get to a new area though every exit off that map is blocked off and I hope that changes and I get to explore more (i.e. they have me revisiting that area later in the story)

Active Time Lore is great and hope more games with complex stories start using it. I would understand the story of FF Tactics if it had ATL.

I like it quite a bit. I do hope the revenge plot gets shelved soon though, its a bit annoying to be enjoying the characters and world and get taken out of it so Clive can rant about "me want revenge". Active Time Lore is a really nice feature for keeping on top of all the lore/concepts

Gameplay wise I think its enjoyable enough but its certainly not sweeping any awards among most action games. I'd prefer if moves were more freeform and linked together. A lot of the kit is too one-and-done. Its also a bit too easy. The game's really generous with hits so you can just rush enemies without thought.

Areas are a bit sparce and I wish Clive's movement speed was better. I don't have a problem with them being linear but they can a bit too fluffy for how linear they are.
