Christopher Nolan has way more Hits that go beyond and above than Misses, like Tenet. So I'll still be watching Oppenheimer because odds are the Historical Piece movie won't devolve into "Exposition the Movie" like Tenet was.

Tenet was a complete miss, but everything else from him I've seen was a pretty good watch so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that Tenet is not the beginning of the end or something.

That tantrum he threw over WB's 2021 decision was clownshoes though, not like he was Denis Villeneuve who actually had a movie best seen in IMAX coming out that year.

Hes not exactly tested in the field of based on a trur story that isnt big bang war stuff, and hollywood biopics tend to be extremely boringly shot.

we should definitely keep our hype low.

I too enjoy my films with extremely poor audio mixing even in the theaters designed for the movie and cardboard characters that have nothing of interest to them.

Sure, but if he thinks Inception and Interstellar are bad, then he clearly doesn't like Nolan, and I don't care about whether or not he is interested in Oppenheimer.

That's definitely an opinion I can get behind. It's in my personal top 10 movies of all time. I had reserves about the sci fi element in the movie, but after more thoughts and repeated viewing it only helped elevate the movie than hurt it. It does feel out of the bloom, but it enhances the movie and the message it was trying to convey.

I forgot where I saw this but someone said Nolan purposely does this shit where you're unable to understand what the fuck they're talking about. It's one of those artsy fartsy "creative" thing where he uses dialogue more for sound effects rather than actually telling the scene or plot.

Nolan is a hit or miss for me. He sounds like an intelligent person when you hear him talk. Non of his films I've seen I would consider bad. But there's always a scene somewhere. Where I'm thinking to myself, "why did they do that?".

I've sort of lost interest in his films. For me he sort of feels like the thinking mans Micheal Bay.

No. Refusing to watch a director's future work because of potentially one bad movie is pretty dumb, especially assuming if you liked his previous work.

Granted, I missed Tenet thanks to covid and never got around to watching it, but I have a hard time imagining this thought process unless he randomly made a horrifically racist film or something akin to that.

I like to pretend that Tenet doesn't exist and I get annoyed when I'm reminded of it.

I asked for my money back from the theater on account of the fact I couldn't hear any dialog for the last third of the movie. The theater dude then informed me that it wasn't a theater problem and that's just how the movie was, but he gave me my money back anyway for having to bother with such a shit movie.

Complaining about not understanding the dialogue is missing the point that you weren't supposed to hear everything. People aren't used to that and think it's a pretentious answer but it's similar to not getting subtitles from R2D2

That's all well in good except for the part where it is a unique audience problem. If Nolan was making thing deliberately hard to hear as an artistic decision to represent the chaos of the situation, that's fine, but none of the characters have any issues hearing each other. So clearly in universe, it's not that hard to hear dialog. It's also clearly presented in closed captioning. Which makes the decision to muffle it for the audience fall apart, since it's extremely half-assed. Also important plot information probably shouldn't be delivered through the barely audible dialog.

And if R2-D2 was delivering loads of plot-significant exposition through his beeps and chirps, you'd better believe people would want subtitles. But they wisely didn't have R2 do much talking.

But the thing about the muffled dialogue stuff is it isn't unique to Tenet so I find it a bit strange people are using Tenet as the main target for that.
