They disappeared after Super Mario World and didn't return until Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga more than a decade later. For a time, I thought that they were canonically dead since they were pushed into lava or exploded into nothingness upon defeat. For the record, I'm glad they came back. Why are we not trying to be crushed with a piano or tossed in some dystardly music themed dungeon by ludwig, climbing through some gaudy gold castle owned by wendy, fighting a giant mecha koopa built by iggy or going through some circus tent of doom by lemmy nintendo?
