Every entry is just plain bashing it saying it's the most weak and pathetic pokemon ever, when that's not even true. Every other Pokemon has entries hyping them up with cool entries

Because it is the weakest by far and no evolving into Gyarados does not change that it's the weakest one

In the games you have to constantly switch it out or feed it rare candies to make evolve since it's so useless in battle. How do trainers make it evolve in the anime where shared exp isn't a thing?

Trivia: Sunkern is statistically weaker than Magikarp (going by average base stat totals)

Magikarp just gets the bad rap here because it came first.

Because exp in the anime ranges from not a thing to barely not a thing.

They kick it into the water.

Because the entries in the pokedex are written by unaccompanied 10 year old children, and magikarp sucks compared to a bunch of other Pokemon that 10 year old is going to encounter.

It gets a bad rep because for a good bit, the only move it knows is splash although I think it's movepool improved since the earlier games. Not entirely sure though.

Sunkern isn't worth than useless for most of its stage though. It has offensive moves from the very beginning and has better offensive stats than Magikarp.

Idk the wrestling term but the point is to exaggerate how much he sucks so that the glow-up into Gyrados is a mind blowing power boost for believing in him

Plus Sunkern evolves by evo stone so you don't need to grind with it as long as you have TMs or whatever for Sunflora

also Gyarados is far better than Sunflora so the incentive to suffer through its time as Karp is much higher than it would be to deal with Sunkern for a mediocre Sunflora, so far fewer people have that experience

Not according to the anime. Meowth tried to eat one and it broke his fangs, with Misty saying that Magikarp was all scales and bones.
