Was just driving down the highway. The lane to the left of me is about to disappear into mine. Its merging. Theres also a large truck carrying other vehicles there. I turn on my turn signal to merge into the lane on my left and allow the truck to merge safely. Well, some asshole decides to block me. On purpose. I look over to him like, Wtf!? And hes got a face like, Oh yeah, youre fucked. .

I didnt do anything to this person. He just wanted bad to happen to me just because he had the power to do it. He didnt give two fucks about me or my family. I just witnessed what could go wrong in an accident the other day, too.

wtf is wrong with people!?

We tend to placate and make excuses for people with mental health problems these days. It's turned into a get out of jail free card to a degree, allowing people to avoid punishment for their bad behavior.
People are actively faking mental disorders now because it gets them attention. I was just reading about how there's a trend of people on TikTok now pretending to have Tourette's for views. I can't fathom what would make someone do that. They certainly have mental health problems, but Tourette's isn't one of them.

People change when they get into cars, it's like they don't know these micro decisions can kill people. Just drive defensively and keep yourself safe.

That's not a mental health problem, that's an asshole problem plain and simple. Sorry you were treated that way for no reason.

They change because they feel safe in their moving vehicle. They're just acting out in a way they'd be afraid to when someone's fist is in range of their face. Just imagine being at the grocery store and some guy sprints and cuts you off right before you get to the register and gives you the finger lol

The people on the road are the main reason why I rarely ever leave the house. I wish I could take more vacations (which I desperately need), but I just can't stand the aggravation that comes with driving. There's way too many literal psychopaths out there. Either that or they're just completely braindead. Probably from drugs or alcohol. I've avoided so many accidents by driving under the assumption that the cars next to me will do the dumbest thing possible. I had this one close call the other day where a car pulled out directly in front of me. And I waited for it. I was already prepared to hit the breaks and if I wasn't, I would have struck him real good. And things won't get any better. People texting brought on a whole new level of danger. It's just an incredible display of total disregard for other people's lives.

Lol. I'm guessing you've never driven in Europe? Crazy fucks drive mostly with their horns over there. Mainland asia somehow manages to be worse.

Oddly enough Johannesburg was the most reasonable place I've ever been as far as other drivers went. Granted, it's been a decade.

And yet the population as a whole resists efforts to move away from driving being the only practical way to get around, making it a lot harder to justify getting those idiots off the road because doing so would destroy their independent mobility.

Depends where you are in Europe. In terms of deaths per 100,000 vehicles, Eastern European countries tend to be quite a bit worse than the US (the highest being Albania, at ~6.5 times more), Western tend to be quite a bit better (with Norway topping the list at 5.4 times lower, not counting San Marino because it's too small to give meaningful numbers). Driving culture certainly changes, which can be a shock and lead to the feeling that you're less safe driving there, but actual fatality stats show that large chunks of Europe are significantly safer to drive in than the US.

South Africa on the whole is about 8.5 times worse than the US, though my quick search for by-country data didn't turn up anything for Johannesburg specifically, so perhaps that's being brought up by other parts of the country.

It's in a bit of a weird and very unfortunate position. We're recognizing that jailing (or even executing people) for treatable mental health issues they can't be expected to control themselves is bad, which is obviously a good thing, but the mental health care supports needed to treat those issues simply aren't there (and when they are, most people can't afford them), so the actual solution to the problem never actually happens. By and large, "people are avoiding responsibility by claiming to have mental health issues" is a gross exaggeration of the reality of the situation, mostly from pearl-clutching conservatives who lose their minds at the mere idea of somebody doing a crime and not going to jail for it (while happily supporting white-collar criminals that cause harm on an infinitely larger scale than that one youth what stole a Pepsi), but it's still a really troublesome middle ground where we've recognized that there are better ways to deal with these behaviours, but we aren't actually developing the capacity to employ those better methods.

There was this hipster kid today who went on the wrong side to get gas cause it was more convenient for him. Then he drives through the parking lot cuts infront of people actually using the lanes in said parking lot to get ahead of them

Just last week there was this guy that had all the time in the world to pull out in front of me out of a parking lot but just waited until I was about to pass then pulls out right in front of me, luckily I was paying attention and slammed on my breaks. At first I thought he was just a dumbass but then he would speed up then break check me, he did it a few times before he gave up so I think he was trying to get me to hit him for insurance.

I'd say it comes down to about 30-33% of people in this country. The help most of them need should have been given back in the 80s or 90s, but they were instead enabled and catered to the point of, well, here we all are as a world.

Yeah there is a lot of bad drivers who don't care about anybody but themselves on the road. I was once told that you don't drive just yourself on the road, you've got to drive for everybody else too.

I was in a similar situation once, where a lane was merging into the interstate I was driving on. Bear in mind I'm going close to 80mph here. A semi and some stupid bitch driving behind the semi are coming onto the interstate. I get over to the left lane for the semi and this lady to get on. The semi gets on successfully, but the lady decides she doesn't want to drive behind a semi for a few hundred feet and drives around the semi, and TRIES TO GO RIGHT BETWEEN US, and nearly runs me off the road completely into the grass. I had to swerve on to the left shoulder so she didn't collide into me. STUPID BITCH.

The sam's club near me has arrows pointing which way you're supposed to drive through the gas station. Plenty of lanes for vehicles with gas on both sides, yet everytime there is some dumbass going the wrong way.

Also one time I had a dude just pull up to the first pump, when there was a second one empty as well even though he knew I was behind him, so I had to go around him, and back up to the pump to get to it.
