The people who complain about cancel culture are always people who made their living on shock humour who don't realize society has moved on and their type of humor isn't wanted anymore. I'm sure people who did minstrel acts back in the day felt the same way when they were phased out.

"Cancel Culture" is a term people on the right use as a means to appropriate the language of those they oppress while acting in the role of the oppressor.

• Banning books, bullying, purging social media dissent, passing discriminatory legislation - all things the right stands for are not cancel culture.

• Criticizing a conservative using the same communication tools, or combating election and vaccine misinformation is cancel culture.

My interpretation was that the position is so naive, that the person is acting as a gaslighter by insisting on it. It was an adjective to stress just how naive that position is. (At best)

In most cases, yeah. It's funny how the free market is supposed to be king, but as soon as people decide to use their voice as consumers to not support a business or artist for the things they choose to say or do, it's bad because it's "cancel culture"

Found some people to bully around at gunpoint, got more than he bargained for when they fought back and two ended up dead because a white supremacist wanted to impress his Proud Boy heroes.

His take in this video is actually very reasonable.

Yeah, he's kind of right because it's basically public shaming nowadays and pretty similar to bullying in school.

If it was done objectively and with some care and process, it wouldn't be as bad because the idea isn't necessarily wrong. But it's mostly done through courts of idiots.

But that's never what's being addressed when the words "cancel culture" are used... instead people will try to portray the people making violent threats as victims when they get fired or arrested or banned and people will say THAT is cancel culture, even though it's really just a bully and a terrible excuse for a human being getting what they deserve.

It is manipulative. Because a large chunk of these board is very charged far-left politics board refugees who will read the title, not watch the video, and assume that this is just another "moronic right-winger" crying about cancel culture.
