I accidentally re-stumbled onto them recently after hearing one of their songs in a movie I was watching, and man. Were they like, major assholes or something when they were first big? I know they did the weird masked/painted singer thing, but like, whatever.

I know "nu-metal" is a generally hated genre, but I can't lie, some of their songs are pretty fucking dope.

In fairness tho, one of my favorite bands is System of A Down, so I'm already generally a fan of that era of metal anyways.

They're scary

They do? Tbh I never noticed anyone feeling strongly enough about them in the first place to hate them. Dismissed or ignored? Yeah but not hated. From my observation, they were the quintessential "also ran" band of the era. I wouldn't think anyone would have anything left in the tank to give them hell since anyone who would do so was already drained from hating Slipknot. Except maybe Mushroomhead fans. Those people are a bottomless well of resentment and hatred.

Their first two albums are legit.

Only song of theirs I ever liked was Happy

Noise. It's like why do I dismiss Slipknot. I am over this........happening again. I know the Mighty Mighty Bosstones seem stupid having 8 members but they all do something whereas at least back then Slipknot had all these ppl in masks and things like that where like yea we are the band we are just the boogey monsters.

I am no music savant, but then someone mentions Nickelback. I just want to focus on say slipknot or mudvane.

They were okay, but not quite on the same level of other bands. My friend really liked them however I didn't particularly like the singer's voice.

My local alternative station kept playing one of their songs (Slipnot) as a into because we all said it was a lawn mower starting, song so clearly it is perfect for a segment start. It was pretty funny in that context b/c there was no vocals, but I still do think Slipknot is a lot of noise band with ppl with masks who got over on the Ozfest by playing at noon? Whatever like I could rock hard too if I got on a big tour if I cared and showed some passion,

It's not like not you could got on the Ozz tour without some sort of handout.

I def like Mudvayne better than Godsmack, but I get what you mean. Will say tho, Voodoo is a solid song, not even gonna lie.

Tbh I think the whole painted faces thing really hurt them a lot because it made them look like a gimmick band. Musically I'd put them above a lot of the more popular nu metal bands of that era, LD-50 was a pretty great album

Mudvayne is fine, but they did a lot of gimmicks to be edgy during their shows and it never felt as sincere as say, mushroomhead or slipknot. I think the big thing is that mudvayne could have been completely fine as just a straight over the plate power trio of nu/groove metal, but they decided that they needed a gimmick and then went in a weird creative direction.

Death Blooms is a bad ass song. Basically anything off their L.D.50 album kicks ass.

I dont hate Godsmack, but theres only a few songs of theirs I listen to even semi-regularly.

no fucking way. Mudvayne was genuinely experimental at points early on, Im not a huge nu metal fan but theyve always struck me as being far more inspired and unique than most of their peers

Godsmack is as bottom of the barrel as it gets

Because nu-metal is the worst genre of all rock & roll.

I only got into Mudvayne pretty recently. Cant speak for their whole discography, but LD50 goes hard.

Mudvayne got shelved for its side project Hell Yeah for a while. But now even Hell Yeah is inactive too

They're actually from the same area I grew up in (Central Illinois) and I saw them in concert back in high school in their hometown just as they were starting to get big and it's still one of my favorite concerts to this day, such a fun show. Don't really listen to them much anymore but will jam out to Dig or Happy if they come on

tbh i think nu metal is the only genre i actually "grew out of." i cant imagine sitting down and listening to korn or godsmack or whatever nowadays

Their first song ("Dig") is in no way nu metal. It's screamy cookie monster metal. Then somewhere along the way the singer decided he wanted to be Aaron Lewis instead
