The book was way better.

I hated how the movie minimalized the role of Chief Bromden when the entire book is from his perspective.

You can make a good case for The Godfather and Shawshank.

LotR (which I don't even like)? One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? No. Stop it.

The films are action adventures, which the books are not. Mileage varies when it comes to 'useless crap'.

But I don't care much for the books or the films, so that's about all I can be arsed to say.

There is some quality shade that's thrown around in the books that people who've only seen the movie haven't had the joy of experiencing, like...

As they came out again into the open country at sundown they overtook an old man leaning on a staff, and he was clothed in rags of grey or dirty white, and at his heels went another beggar, slouching and whining.
'Well Saruman!' said Gandalf. 'Where are you going?'
'What is that to you?' he answered. 'Will you still order my goings, and are you not content with my ruin?'
'You know the answers,' said Gandalf: 'no and no. But in any case the time of my labours now draws to an end. The King has taken on the burden. If you had waited at Orthanc, you would have seen him, and he would have shown you wisdom and mercy.'
'Then all the more reason to have left sooner,' said Saruman; 'for I desire neither of him. Indeed if you wish for an answer to your first question, I am seeking a way out of his realm.'
'Then once more you are going the wrong way,' said Gandalf, 'and I see no hope in your journey. But will you scorn our help? For we offer it to you.'
'To me?' said Saruman. 'Nay, pray do not smile at me! I prefer your frowns. And as for the Lady here, I do not trust her: she always hated me, and schemed for your part. I do not doubt that she has brought you this way to have the pleasure of gloating over my poverty. Had I been warned of your pursuit, I would have denied you the pleasure.'
'Saruman,' said Galadriel, 'we have other errands and other cares that seem to us more urgent than hunting for you. Say rather that you are overtaken by good fortune; for now you have a last chance.'
'If it be truly the last, I am glad,' said Saruman; 'for I shall be spared the trouble of refusing it again. All my hopes are ruined, but I would not share yours. If you have any.'

Maybe I'm easily amused, but that cracks me up every time I read it. They gave him the nickname Sharkey, but they should've called him Salty.

The chapter where the orcs are being chased by the horse riders is one of my favorites.
Very suspenseful, plus the orcs are probably as close to actual humans as you can get given the setting.

Hard no. I love Kubricks version. But it does not hold a candle to the book.

I hate to admit it, but Jurassic Park. I love the novel, but it reads very dry and pragmatic (As most Michael Crichton books do). The movie left out a lot of good parts, but seeing the Dinosaurs on the big screen was amazing at the time.

They gave him the nickname Sharkey, but they should've called him Salty.

For real.

'Gibbets and crows!' he hissed, and they shuddered at the hideous change. 'Dotard! What is the house of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek, and their brats roll on the floor among the dogs?

Gandalf, of course, can be that way too.

"I shall go, unless they chain me up. There must be someone with intelligence in the party."
"Then you certainly will not be chosen, Peregrin Took!"

What are you going to do then? asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizards bristling brows.

Knock on the doors with your head, Peregrin Took, said Gandalf. But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.

And

Fool of a Took! he growled. This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw
yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!
