(I really only use mine for shooting trap, but if I needed it for defense, you better believe I'm gonna make a puree)

Just knives and the occasional heavy object. More importantly, I have a back door and several ground-floor windows, which are generally going to be safer alternatives than trying to confront somebody that's gotten the jump on me with the intent of causing harm.

Of course, random home invasions in the sense of "I've broken into your house to hurt you" are so astronomically rare that it's not really something I'm concerned about. Most "home invasions" are just burglaries where somebody happens to be home, and most burglars will just run away if somebody turns out to be home unless they have reason to believe it's going to be safer to fight.

Guns simply are not for self-defence. They are for killing and maiming.

Not to mention, even if I were to own a gun, it would be required to be stored in such a manner, that it is utterly unavailable in the case of a home invasion.

ya - guns are effective, but unless i have an easy access already loaded gun it won't do any good for self-defense (too slow); and having that is just bad-practice

an aluminum bat by the door is probably the most effect home defense tool.

Well, a gun is still nice to have just in case you realize someone is in your home. Don't count on a baseball bat doing you any good if someone actually does break into your home and spots you and gets spooked. If you have some kind of alarm system that will likely deter anyone from coming in at all but if you just have a sensor that goes off when someone opens the front door you might be able to get the jump on them

No, but my watch vibrates when the motion sensors go off, and pulls up a feed of the cameras in that area on my phone. My system was setup by professionals. Between the sensors and cameras I dont really have blindspots on any of my properties.

Not that I'm likely to be the one doing the shooting. I married a gorilla for that.

I'm not going to assume why they are here. For all I know, they are looking to cause mayhem, and I'm not going to waste precious time asking questions questions about your intent on the off chance that you were only looking to steal my property, and not kill or rape me or my daughter. If they dont want to get splattered, they shouldn't break in. Pretty simple really.

Did some statistics googling because I was wondering.

Most concrete numbers I could find were from 2012 and from the FBI.

For every single (1) justifiable gun homicide, there were 34 criminal gun homicides, 78 gun suicides and 2 accidental gun homicides in the US.

More recent numbers are also in line with there being far less justifiable uses than other kinds.

Can someone explain to me how such numbers argue in favour of "self-defence" guns?

Unless you've made enemies of criminals (which you might have. That's your business, and extra defensive steps make sense if you have), there isn't much basis for that assumption. The vast, vast majority of B&E's are property crimes, with any violence being secondary to that initial intent and usually a result of somehow cutting off their escape. It's part of why the risk of being murdered is doubled for those in gun-owning households: Those with guns for self-defense are more likely to escalate the situation into violence because they think their guns will protect them if they do so. Subsequent to that, the number of armed households in America increases the likelihood that simple burglars will pre-emptively arm themselves for the purpose of their own self-defense (speaking literally, not legally) if they get caught.

Everyone likes to think they're going to be that one justifiable case and that they're too competent/stable to ever end up contributing to one of the accidental deaths or suicides.

Now, generally speaking, the latter is true for those that store their guns safely: locked up such that only they have access unless they're immediately in use (namely, carrying). But a whole lot of people don't, and the NRA works very hard to make sure it's not actually legally required for gun owners to be so conscientious.

I'm not even going to read this because it's unnecessarily. Bottom line if you break into my house you are a threat. I'm going to grab a weapon and find my daughter, and call the cops. I'm not saying I'm going to seek them out to kill them but I will be prepared for the worst. If you aren't then you're a bad parent

If you have a loaded gun where your kid can acquire it, you are a bad parent.

Just because you own a gun and are prepared to defend yourself in your home doesn't mean you are looking to explode someone's skull. I don't expect to ever need it
