I've always wanted one due to my asthma.

Anybody have any recommendations?

I have one, but sadly, because I am moving in less than two weeks and will be out of town for a few days between now and then, it was already packed away and stored unfortunately.

I have a Mooka Air Purifier, HEPA.

My friend has cystic fibrosis and three cats. He hadn't bothered with air filters until I mentioned it when visiting him (as his place was dusty and cat hair everywhere). He bought two afterwards and has talked how much cleaner his place is and how better his breathing is.

So, yes, getting the right ones do actually work.

I did some research on them recently and settled on the Honeywell HPA5300. Bought it back in April

I only paid $170 for it though. Shits gone up to $260

Seems to work well so far. I leave it in auto mode and Ive seen the air quality indicator change in response to cooking, as well as paint fumes.

I used to have bad allergies when I was younger but Ive used air purifiers since I bought my house 5 years ago and hardly ever have trouble anymore

Look for one that minimizes consumable supplies. We have a Honeywell with an expensive inner HEPA filter that you vacuum and a cheap outer filter that you have to replace. Doubles as a white-noise generator at night.

IIRC it's good to avoid ionizers which I don't see linked
