I don't. That's one of the reasons why I tend to hold back on any jokes that I make. I genuinely don't know if anything I say may be misconstrued as hurtful or cruel. Moreover, I know that I am far from emotionally close enough to anybody to be joking around with them. It's not a fun life. But it is a life where nobody shows any signs of openly hating me.

If you have decent taste it's harder to be tasteless.

Also if you are socially ruthless, people are more inclined to laugh (in person) when you make any joke, out of fear for what you could do.

A lot of people will tell you to not care what other people think, but I find that people who need to vocalize the fact that they don't care are often the ones who care the most, which is sort of pathetic.

You should care how they see you, but you should also maybe shift your view on how you want them to see you.
