A Marion County mother of four was shot and killed in front of her children on Friday.

Attorney Ben Crump is representing the family of Ajike "AJ" Owens who investigators say was in an ongoing feud with the shooter who accused her of trespassing.

As the sheriff's office continues to investigate what led up to the shooting, the family is calling for something to be done now.

"She loved them with all her being. To know her is to know that her kids were her everything," said Pamela Dias, Owens' mother. "My baby was so full of life. She was a single mother of four."

Dias says the neighbor that shot her daughter had a history with Owens' kids.
"Harassed the children in the neighborhood," Dias said. "Harassed Ajike Shantrelle Owens' four babies. She called them racial slurs: the N-word, slaves."
And Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods says law enforcement had been called before.
"We know that this has basically been a neighborhood feud over time," Woods said. "I've got reports that these things, they've called, one side or the other. Either the mother, Ms. Owens, has called, or the shooter has called complaining about the children."
Both Owens' family and the sheriff say the neighbor threw a pair of skates Friday that hit one of Owens' children. Her mother says Owens went and knocked on that neighbor's door.
"A closed, locked door," Dias said. "Door never opened. My daughter, my grandchildren's mother, was shot and killed with her nine-year-old son standing next to her. She had no weapon. She posed no imminent threat to anyone."
The sheriff says his office is still investigating and says right now, they're still missing a side of the story.
"Because we want to seek justice and we want to assure that we get the facts right, especially in a case to this level, we just don't take always one side," Sheriff Woods said. "'Cause it doesn't always paint the full picture."

Owens' family is calling for an arrest. But the sheriff says there is a specific reason one can't be made: the stand your ground law.
"A lot of people don't understand is that the law has specific instructions for us in law enforcement," Woods said. "Anytime that we think or perceive or believe that that may come into play, we cannot make an arrest. The law specifically says that. What we have to rule out is whether the deadly force was justified or not before we can even make the arrest."
The sheriff called his resolve to find the truth "unwavering."
As friends, family, and people from the community came together Monday night, they heard from the family's attorney and the president of the Marion County NAACP. Their message was clear. They want justice for Ajike Owens.
"We support the sheriff in doing what's right," said Bishop James Stockton, the president of the Marion County NAACP. "We just request that he do it right now."
Owens' loved ones say they plan to hold a vigil for her Thursday night.

Cops can waltz into your home and kill your dog or family just fine tho.

And that just sounds like you instantly think so for what reason? If she's constantly harassed the family, what situation could have been created where she was on danger when she was the aggressor?

This is just bullshit. That law needs to be done away with.

Yeah it's bullshit. Regardless if the accusation of trespassing was true you don't have any right to go up to a closed door that isn't being considerably battered or destroyed, act like they are still a threat, and shoot them through it. Guilty of premeditated murder, absolutely. This should be a open and shut case if the jury isn't racist and actually values justice.

Goes to show that you can't simply try to talk and reason out "problems" with people these days. Goddamn animal scumbags all over this country.

So it seems like the white lady threw skates at black children. The black mother knocked on the door of a white lady and the black mother was shot through the door. The cops proceed to act like this is a real complicated event and they just dont care to do anything about it.

She shot her through the front door. How the hell does that stupid stand your ground law apply there?

Stand your ground law doesnt apply here, as there was no threat that could reach the shooter. This is a homicide

Stand your ground is about potential threats on your property, from what I remember. The shooter threw skates at a child and the mother went to confront her. Now, confronting some one does not mean violence but the shooter will probably claim that the victim was there to fight because of the previous incident.

If shooter didn't have a gun she wouldn't be so brazen with her disrespect for the family.

Besides the obvious racism, I have a feeling the killer knows or is related to someone powerful or is related to a cop.

This was in Florida? I get the feeling she's gonna get away with it. Florida doesn't like anyone who isn't white, republican or Christian. She should have been arrested on the spot. Sorry - I meant wasn't the delay to arrest by police because "it could be justifiable" the same...

The fact that this woman is not in jail but Travis Rudolph is going to jail says it all about Stand Your Ground. For those who don't know a women sent a hit team to the kill Rudolph he killed one of them and he is on trial for murder. And this happened in FL.

Gun safety 101: You need to SEE your target. Not to mention see what is behind the target, and "for all I knew, they had a gun and were brandishing it" is NOT gonna fly. Throw the book at the shooter and bury them under the library. Stand Your Ground needs tighter regulations and people need gun training like most any other dangerous tool.

Would you trust a drunkard with a nailgun or a lathe? What about a toddler with a drill? No? Same rule for guns. Maybe it's time to stop handing out guns like Halloween candy at a party.

Except in Indiana supposedly. I heard they have a stand your ground law against cops. But I have not ever heard if it's been enforced successfully yet

As for this case, the cops are just trying to find an excuse to let the killer go free. There is no way the victim was a threat on the other side of a door and a 9 year old next to them

The stand your ground law isn't stupid, but this is clearly murder. There was no immediate threat to the shooter. They're going to have a field day with the perp.

It's very likely that the only justice the family of the murdered woman will recieve is whatever they can get themselves. This will likely be considered "self defense". Yes it's bullshit, but there have been plenty of egregious applications of self defense laws when it comes to killing black people.
