Not sure if anyone is interested but thought I'd post an update.

History is basically she can't keep food or water down. It's been going on for 6 months if not longer but she's kept quiet on it. She's lost so much weight and down to 4.5 stone. Finally admitted to hospital and spent over 36 hours in A&E which is no good for anyone at the best of time.

Update is she's looking better after being moved to a ward and is on a drip but she looks so frail as you'd expect. She's alert and can have a decent conversation but she's obviously a bit out of it due to not getting enough food \ water.

Anyway she's had a scan and endoscopy today to try and get to the bottom of the issues but as she's almost 90 even if they do find something I'd be surprised if they'd be able to do anything to sort it out.

Doctor should be updating us today on the findings but saying they need to tell us face to face. Unsure if that's the usual thing or because it's something bad. Who knows. Everything kinda on hold while we wait on the doctor. Not sure what to expect but the not knowing is awful.

Ok so it turns up she has a growth in her esophagus (sp) they dont know what it is yet but theyve taken it for a biopsy which obviously makes you think of cancer. Apparently theyve managed to open the blockage enough so she can drink for the time being and are thinking about putting a stint in but obviously thats only a short term solution. If it is cancer I dont think much they can do now. Shes too old for chemo and if its at the point its stopping her eating etc its probably too big anyway. It may be some sort of gland thats got enlarged. I dont know enough about the throat so Im not sure what can happen in that situation. If it is cancer this will be the fourth person Ive lost to that fucker in the last 12 months. Evil stuff.

Just heard from the doctor. Shes got cancer. Probably only got weeks left now. Not sure why but I feel oddly at peace that we finally know whats going on and we have a trajectory of whats going to happen roughly.

Im sure itll hit me at some point when I see her in pain and her deteriorating but its nice to know how long you have left so you can at least make the most of it.

As I read somewhere. Dont pity the dead. Pity us poor mortals who have to continue living once theyve gone.

Fuck, im so sorry.

Its ok. The thought of her dying weirdly doesnt upset me at the moment. But Ive seen too many people go through cancer already and its the weeks leading up to the death that worry me. Wouldnt wish that shit on anyone.

Ironically we have a big family holiday booked at the end of July as a get together after my grandad died so its sweetly ironic that may be cancelled due to another grandparent going.
