Dalthine 06/06/23 6:19:00 AM #30:	Story wise it's definitely more mature and well told. It does lean into political themes though, which also makes it more dry and at times a bit plodding. Whether or not you like that will be up to taste. If you liked the way FF12's story worked, you'll probably like Tactics' story. Gameplay wise, Tactics has more steps built into it to unlock things, but you're also not gated by equipment on strong skills. The basic systems are largely the same, except a lot of actions have cast time that can allow them to be manipulated or avoided. It gets a bit slower having to compare when things resolve to make sure your foes can't avoid them. The biggest difference to TA is that Tactics has a lot of unique characters with strong skills only they have access to (in addition to all the same options generics get). You're much more likely to roll with actual characters instead of generics. To the point that one of them, the Thunder God, is considered to almost trivialize the rest of the game when you get him. I prefer the different class races, and I like FFTA's job selection better overall than FFT's. I also vastly prefer a fixed amount of JP after a fight over JP grinding in FFT. But for others like myself - the kind of person who savescums whenever I incur a bounty in an Elder Scrolls game - they're an unnecessary, perpetual annoyance that has a permanent seat in the back of your mind the entire time you're trying to relax and enjoy the game. TA may be overly hated, but Tactics itself is easily the best the genre has to offer.
