About a month and a half ago I was informed by my doctor that I was right on the low end of pre diabetes. Ive been overweight my whole life and that was the real wake up call I needed. I joined a gym, changed up my diet, and I havent looked back.

I started at 345 pounds. Yes, I know, thats huge. Im currently down to 314 and Ive started putting on muscle as well. While Im not anywhere close to where I wanna be yet, I feel better than I have in years. The high you get after a good workout is unlike anything else.

Anyway this is just kinda blogfaqs, but yeah. If you struggle with your weight and are on the fence about joining a gym, just take the plunge. Yes, its hard at first, but if you stick with it I promise it will get easier and youll feel great.

Awesome work! 31 lbs is incredible and takes a lot of dedication.

Ive completely cut out fast food, sodas, junk food etc. I avoid anything with excess sugar and try to get a nice balance of fruits and vegetables as well as protein. I avoid anything fried. I drink exclusively water or black coffee.

Solid start and you can fine-tune it as you get in better shape and learn more.

Good on you.

This is the best way to go, imo. Its much more sustainable to just cut out the junk from your diet and adding portions of healthier foods (fruits, vegetables, lean meats etc). While stricter diets may work for some, I find this approach better

Yes,he doesn't really need to be super mindful of cutting out literally every source of sugar. He has already stuck to a plan that is working for him at losing weight right now. Making it more unpleasant and trying to cut even more things might be conterproductive. Generally speaking, if someone cuts out all the junk food and eats some fruit instead, they are still eating less sugar and certainly less calories than before (As fruit is more filling than junk), and that's what they are aiming for.

My A1c was 5.7 when it was last checked. Thats the lowest possible number in the prediabetic range. I saw the doc again about a week and a half ago and he said we need to wait a couple months before checking again, but it should be better with the way things are going.

Seriously the threat of diabetes was the kick in the pants I needed. Sure, Ive always known diabetes was a real possibility, but actually having it in my face like that made it real.

Gotta admit, I was scared of joining the gym at first. I was afraid of being the fat guy at the gym. Fellas dont be. There is no shame in working to improve yourself and anyone who would dare judge you isnt worth your time anyway:

For the first couple of weeks I stuck to just taking walks around the neighborhood. On the route I take there is a giant hill. I remember on the very first day I struggled like hell up that hill. I had to stop to catch my breath numerous times. But a few weeks later something happened. I walked up that hill without stopping a single time. I didnt even realize it until I was well past it. It was at that moment that I realized I was making progress. That I could do this. You gotta savor those little victories

It's amazing what a little exercise and change in diet can do.
My lady, who is small to begin with, lost 20 pounds in a year by cutting out fast food, which she ate about 1 to 3 times a week on average. We both didn't notice, but people made comments.
keep being healthy! I hope you enjoy cooking, cause that's a fun way to be healthy and creative.

I've started going to the gym in March but I'm not optimistic about getting in shape.

I'm just way too lazy, weak, and low-energy. The fact that I go at all is an accomplishment.

Honestly. This isn't bad!

Dieting is hard, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Breaking habits, is also hard!

Having a few comfort food meals, snacks, whatever, every once in awhile is going to be more beneficial you mentally going through this. Going straight cold turkey on everything works on a very miniscule amount of people.

The key is not to rely on motivation. Motivation will get you started, and that steam may keep you going for 1, 2, 3, 10 weeks, but at some point that will fade, and it comes down to discipline. Knowing that you can have a meal that may be "bad" for you isn't going to kill or impede your progress. It's about not over indulging on it, and staying consistent.

Good on ya!
