The best, easiest quality of life improvement (if you have this problem) is to routinely toss and replace your socks. They're cheap and there's no sense it feeding any weird hoarder instinct/mentality. If you can get over keeping singles where "you're sure" you have the other one . . . "somewhere", and just fucking pitch em and replace, you'll be way more satisfied. If you're actually wearing them out at a weird rate. Buy more so you don't wear them as often.
