From what I've seen They do way less damage than the elemental spells to compensate for the fact that they hit everything for at least neutral damage.

Usually make them crap cause physical hits hit much harder while being neutral on most things and elemental can hit weaknesses.

The Protag's special almighty attacks are pretty good in SMTV but yeah Megido spells are useless.

Megido's actually really good in Soul Hackers (the first one, not the "sequel" that actually has nothing to do with the original at all), where it's a dirt cheap single-target nuke.

Megidola and Megidolaon are great too, but are found much later.

Drain in that game was so fucking amazing for no reason

Devil Survivor also had Megidoladyne which was a real pain in the ass.

The MP cost being so low is just how Soul Hackers was in general. Tetrakarn and Makarakarn only costed like 6 MP too, while some of the unique physical skills would take over 1/3rd of your max HP, game had a weird skill cost economy.

As for the targeting, Megidola targeted an entire row (the game used the old Megaten style where parties were a 3x2 block), while Megidolaon targeted all enemies.
