If republicans are allowed to hurt already struggling people in any way, shape, or form, then too many concessions were made. And they'll just do it again and keep doing it until they're no longer allowed to hold this country hostage.

He's not lying. He agrees with the Republican austerity measures put in to it.

He's looking at it from the grand scheme of avoiding a teetering economic armageddon to be perfectly fair however he sold A LOT of Americans out in the process which he shouldn't be taking lightly at all.

Queue the usual "both sides bad" specific types who will claim Biden making any concessions at all makes him as bad as Republicans. The same types who will cry about Centrists behavior.

By types, I'm speaking of those who don't understand how government works.

I hate how the both sides bullshit in the media allows Republicans to literally take our economy hostage.

From what I have seen so far it looks like a Democratic win.

No one is claiming Biden can do no wrong.

Pointing out letting the deficit is a problem globally that we can't let default, and that like it or not concessions have to be made that you aren't going to like =/= Biden can't do any wrong.

If your over dramatic mindset is "same thing both sides", you don't have a clue how government works. The type who don't have a clue how government actually works also coincidentally ask questions like "wHy CoUlDn'T tHe DeMoCrAtS pAsS aNyThInG 2020 - 2022", or "why Biden doesn't wave his magic pen to EO whatever" therefore "he's as bad as Republicans." That logic shows a lack in understanding how the United States Government actually works and ignores basic math on who's blocking and obstructing things.

There isn't a bigger tell that someone started following politics during Trump's presidency through depth-of-a-puddle centrist podcasts by the "you don't understand how govt works" card.

I mean I'd rather have this deal, even if I dislike major parts of it, than the country default... That'd be catastrophic and I believe the GOP would let it happen.

For the record my belief is that Biden should've invoked the 14th or minted the coin but that being said Democrats are absolutely coming out ahead in this

Biden/McCarthy basically punted the hot potato back to the fringes of congress so that they cant take the blame if the country defaults.

I don't think this deal is that bad TBH. Lots of stuff in it is easily reversible if we get a non insane government and 2 years of bullshit is preferable to a default.

I genuinely don't understand this view. The Republicans made unhinged demands using unhinged tactics and got much of what they wanted, while proving that the tactic works. Nothing has been done to make the tactic not work, and it will surely be used again at the earliest opportunity. But it's a win just because the Republicans didn't get literally everything they want this time? How?

Not losing as bad as you hypothetically could have, but still losing is not a win. Keeping the government operating, while hurting vulnerable people is not a win just because there could have been more pain in an alternate universe.

It may be the case that this is the least bad outcome reasonably available. That doesn't mean it's a win, that Dems came out ahead, that Biden outmaneuvered anyone, or that this is positive in any way.

If Tony likes it, it is definitely a win, for Republicans.

You invoke the 14th and the uncertainty of that dominates the market for the forseeable future til it gets kicked up to a 6-3 Conservative SCOTUS who more than likely strike it down and you end up with a default anyway.

Or you take the coin which comes with its own set of legal fuckery

If neither is palatable then you're left with negotiating since this stupid country gave the GOP a majority in Congress a few months ago.

Rolling the dice on the 14th is high risk but extremely high reward but I won't fault anyone for being skeptical of it.

this. there's only 1 thing i like out of it. the rest not so much.

homeless and another group can apply for food stamps (they didn't allow the first thing before).
though stiffer penalty's that have to have 20 hours of work a week or job training to apply until age 54.
