A two-year-old North Korean was sentenced to life in prison after officials found a Bible in the toddlers parents possession, as the totalitarian regime continued to execute and torture religious worshippers. As many as 70,000 Christians are imprisoned in North Korea, according to a new International Religious Freedom Report by the US State Department. The findings underscored the brutal punitive measures routinely doled out by Supreme Leader Kim Jung Un. People caught with a copy of The Bible in North Korea face the death penalty, while their families including children are sentenced to life in prison. The report highlighted the 2009 imprisonment of a family based on their religious practices and parents possession of a Bible. The entire family, including a two-year-old infant, were sentenced to life in prison camps.

The right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion [in the DPRK] also continues to be denied, with no alternative belief systems tolerated by the authorities, UN Secretary General Antnio Guterres said last July. Guerres wrote how the situation in North Korea has not changed since a 2014 human rights report, which found that authorities almost completely denied the rights to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion and found that the government frequently violated violations of human rights that constituted crimes against humanity.

The artcile might be, but the information is from a US state department report. While I'm sure you can make a credible argument that you shouldn't trust them, it's not exactly the same as yahoo news.

The link in the op isn't a story so much as it's a claim. It's incredibly vague and doesn't allude to any particular set of individuals, details, or facts. There's absolutely no details occurring in the link at all. Sure, a two year old has been the victim of religious persecution in NK at some point in time, but the article doesn't tell us who, or their family, or how a Bible was found, or when, or anything at all.

South Korean media and Radio Free Asia can cite anonymous sources reporting outlandish stuff that nobody can really refute because nobody knows anything about North Korea. And no one likes them anyway, so when they hear it, they just accept it and move on.

I've just heard one too many stories about people who were supposedly executed and who then turned up alive later on to take the especially crazy sounding ones at face value anymore.

Except he's not just talking about "anonymous sources". He's specifically calling defectors liars. They're not anonymous. Like I said, it's one thing to question sources, it's another to call these people liars.

Except quite a few bizarre outlandish cases do have satellite video evidence. We know the existences of several of the camps claimed by refugees, and those existences corroborate their stories

You actually have less evidence people are lying except for people who we actually know when they do lie. People saying this just didn't do enough research

Even recently, there was a satellite video of a runner from NK, who was shot while running away and presumed dead, but he survived the gunshot wound for 24 hours til he was retrieved at the cover of darkness by an SK soldier. Surely if things were fine, we wouldn't see this.

I just don't see the point of denying it when it's been decades and a lot of proof came out over time. Remember the guy they killed cuz he defaced a picture in a hotel? Pretty easy to confirm his existence. What's the point of denial, like oh there's no way this fascist govt that my favorite guy supports is actually that bad? It's ok to be wrong, just change your facts over time based on facts that exist out there.
