You're so vain you probably think this topic is about you

Today, more than ever, society values appearance. Are you obsessed with yours?

I know I sure am. I spend too much time trying to look like I'm in my 20s for a woman who is closer to my 40s.

For years, I've been complaining about society focusing too much on the unimportant exterior. There are more important traits that should take priority over appearance. Comments like, "You're beautiful!" do not make me happy. In fact, when people compliment on my exterior, I worry that I am using it to deceive people into hurting them and getting what I want. I'm happier with comments like, "You're smart!" or "You're nice!"

Zero percent. I roll out of bed in the morning and sit around the house in my underwears. I can't remember the last time I used a comb. My clothing exists solely to protect the public from my nudity, and my shoes exist solely to protect my feet from sharp objects.

Body dysmorphic disorder

there is a healthy way to approach your appearance, and its lands somewhere between being vain and being a slob

I consider being a slob far worse than being vain, and I find it hard to land myself in between, so I choose vanity.

Eh idk. I spend like virtually nothing on clothes, I don't do accessories or tattoos, my beard is currently out of control, I don't style my hair any. So I'm like minimal effort and cost. But I wouldn't call myself a slob either. I'm particular about brushing and flossing, I shower too much if anything, and I make sure to thoroughly bidet my butt hole. I'm a minimalist but a clean one.

I work out a lot but that's more to calm my anxiety than for looks. However it does irritate me that I'm all natural but will never come close to anyone using SARMS or tren. So like I'm simultaneously aware that I'm in great shape and people like that but also have mild body dysmorphia because to people who don't know the difference I don't compare

I'm almost certainly a narcissist, but I'm not really vain. Most of my ego is tied into my brain more than my physical appearance.

I tend to dress for comfort, not style. I definitely spend a lot of time and focus on hygiene (I'm kind of a germophobe) so it's not like I'm living like a homeless person, but I don't really care what I look like all that much. As long as I don't stink and my hair isn't wildly pointing in a half-dozen different directions, I'm good.

It helps that I've been with the same person for more than 20 years now. If I was actively on the prowl for a relationship I'd probably be a lot more inclined to try and max out my appearance. But as-is I don't really feel the motivation to chase other people's expectations.

This thread has nothing to do with BDD and is as helpful as telling a suicidal person to suck it up.

I can't say I do. Most days I just wear what I want and look how I feel like that day. I don't dress to please other people unless it was a date or something. As for looks? I'm fine with how I look for the most part. No point wasting time wanting to change something that can't be changed so I don't get hung up on my imperfections. I mean everyone has them.

Which is weird because people who care more about their physical appearance are usually good looking, whereas you mistake writing novellas on every post to be synonymous with a high intellect
