Why is Alan Wake 2 a digital-only release?
There are many reasons for this. For one, a large number of have shifted to digital only. You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc drive and Microsofts Xbox Series S is a digital only console. It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital-only.
Secondly, not releasing a disc helps keep the price of the game at $59.99 / 59.99 and the PC version at $49.99 / 49.99.
Finally, we did not want to ship a disc product and have it require a download for the game we do not think this would make for a great experience either.

Is there a disc-based version of Alan Wake 2 in the works?
There are currently no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc.

Wasn't the first game kind of a flop? I imagine getting a sequel green lit probably involved shaving the budget as much as humanly possible.

who cares it's not your money. It looked good from the trailer and thats all i care about as a fan.

I dont care about how much money a company loses or makes unless it effects the product substantially.

I don't know game development all to well to give a definitive answer. Benefit of a doubt I would assume no, but I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was yes.

A proper direct one now, but Control is somewhat of an indirect sequel.

The main game has some huge Alan Wake Easter eggs, expanding on the plot and lore etc, and then it also had a DLC specifically revolving around the fallout of the events of Alan Wake, featuring a returning antagonist and then teasing the sequel proper in the end.

I didn't think I'd switch to a download guy, but when your physical copy ships with just the disc and the case and may install most/all of it to your hard drive and then there could be a day one patch anyway. What's the point.

Physical copies just seem like clutter now. I still do buy physical copies, but it seems like they are only really worth it for the actual special editions with physical swag now.

Well that looks like how my internet used to be, maybe worse but that was more of a outdated set up I was forbidden to update. Also at least in the PS3 era stuff still mostly ran off the disk with little installing.

Yeah, I got COD Cold War and I had to install it anyways just to play it. When I would go hang with my friend I'd play with sometimes I'd forget it and would kill that option. Right now it's the only game I physically own for the Xbox one (other than Fallout 4 which was given to me) and I don't see myself to going back to buying physical games anymore.

I haven't bought a physical copy of a game in nearly ten years

I already exclusively go with digital, so I'm fine with this.

I think it costs more to put a game on consoles than on PC. I know Steam and the like take a cut, but I believe you also have to buy a dev kit for the consoles so you can get it working on that specific hardware.

I hope the soundtrack is as good as the first one.

I liked Alan Wake, I need to finish it someday. I was more a Max Payne fan and fell off and completely missed Alan Wake until the Remaster. I won't buy this day one, but yeah here's my experience. Also I like how it is cheaper on PC too haha Steam or GOG or ugh Epic. Can handle the bandwidth or what have you.
