Im at the end of season 5 but have yet to finish it.

Tyrion is my boy. Best dude in the show. I was rooting for him and Shae. I'm just as hurt as he is. Choking her out was kinda fucked up.

Jon Snow is really becoming a badass. King Crow? Hell yeah. Feel bad about him and Ygritte. He resisted that hot succubus.

Sucks that The Hound went out how he did. He wasn't that bad of a guy. He and Arya had an interesting relationship.

Jamie is growing on me. He's a shitbag but he's kinda nice too. Saved Breanne from a bad fate. Saved his bro. Loved to see em hug.

Poor Sansa is really going through it. Ramsay might be worse than Joffrey somehow

Im still not done with season 5 really. I'm excited to see the finale of this season.

Honestly you should stop at season 8/HoD season 1. Everything else is trash

yeah, it starts going downhill once you get to season 7.

although season 5 did start to have some glimpses of that...

You should finish the show. Just know that season 8 is going to be bad and youre going to hate it. Especially the episode where you need to keep a flashlight on your TV just to watch it.

S6 has one exemplary episode and one quite good episode that almost validate the rest of the season.

And you should definitely just go ahead and finish the series. If you're still enjoying the show after S5, then you'll more than likely still enjoy the show up until the last 3 or 4 episodes (and imo it's always better to have closure, even if that closure will leave you speechless in a bad way).

People poo poo on the show from season 5-8. I personally enjoyed season 5. 6 was ok with some questionable moments, 7 really started to highlight the shows decline, and as many others have already said, 8 was absolutely awful. There was maybe one single part in season 8 which I enjoyed but that's it. Hard to rewatch any of that season.

Season 8 still lives in my head rent free. Honestly, I've forgotten much of what made GoT a good show prior to season 8 because it was that bad. If I was a billionaire, I'd put a large chunk of my wealth towards recreating it. If there was a gofundme to help evict season 8 from our heads by recreating it, I'd contribute a couple grand.

It's because D&D made the mistake of putting shock value on a pedestal; every disappointing plot point or poorly-contrived character decision can be traced to putting shock value first and logic / cohesive writing / proper buildup and payoff a distant second. IIRC they admitted at one point that their main goal was to put the Red Wedding onscreen; for TC's benefit I don't want to cite the most egregious examples in S7 and S8 even in spoiler tags, but if you consider that every major plot point that came after was an increasingly-failed attempt to recreate the RW's cultural shockwave, the show's trajectory makes a lot more sense.
