no i go to chicago all the time but this just happened to be the first time where i turned on the TV (was going to flip to the nba because literally nothing else is on - you know how it is, hotel TV) and got distracted before i could hit mute or change the channel. volume defaulted to low anyways so i didnt immediately feel compelled to change it like normal

but yeah wtf

Chicago is one of the most populous cities in the country so you're not making any sort of meaningful statement with 4 examples.

Chicago's murder rate is bad, but there are cities with worse murder rates per capita such as St. Louis, Indianapolis, and New Orleans.

Same thing happened to me during my visit last summer. They literally showed a map of Chicago and listed where all the shootings/ murders were in last night and there was about 20 different areas. They are very open about the crime there.

Cook County doesn't even make the top 10 most dangerous counties. You're far more likely to be murdered in Coahoma County in Mississippi than in Chicago.

Was expecting this thread to be about how bad Law and Order SVU is these days. But yea local news is horrible it is just constant depressing stories.

Yeah, the media likes to help drum up fear by implying "this could happen to YOU!"

I believe it's the same thing with murder in prison. Besides not being as common as fiction would have you believe, when it does happen it's usually either a high profile child sex offender or someone who hasn't paid their drug debts.
