The casting was fine

3PO was actually likable in TROS, unlike any of the previous movies.

The sequel trilogy is fine, you can put it on and still be entertained for 6-7 hours.

The problem is that older Star Wars fans are way too picky and judgmental about things that aren't the original three movies, to the extent that they've deluded themselves into thinking Return of the Jedi isn't on the same level as the sequels. Hell, a lot of millennial Star Wars fans are now viewing the prequel trilogy in a positive light because those are the movies they actually grew up with.

Star Wars fans tend to be too fueled by nostalgia to view new movies/series in an objective light and realize that the series has ALWAYS been dumb as hell, just flashy sci-fi with action and comedy scenes thrown in.

You didn't think porgs were appropriately used when they very well could have been the focus of every scene to sell toys or whatever?

That's a hot take, and I'd say it's not a very good one. There's a noticeable dip in competency of the sequel trilogy. You know it's bad when people look at the prequel in hindsight and say it's actually not THAT bad.

On topic? Yeah, the casting was great.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

If you read the official novelizations of the first three movies, it will really drive home how bad the writing actually was without the set pieces, costuming, and special effects to act as a smokescreen lol

Don't misinterpret this as me saying that the original trilogy was a series of bad movies, or that they didn't contribute great things to the movie industry moving forward. They just weren't as well-written as everybody holds them up to be.

That 70's Show actually put it best, in the credits scene where Red and Kitty went to go see the movie.

Red: "Does Eric actually like this? The kid's on dope."
*theater lights up from an on-screen explosion*
Red: "Whoa..."

While much of it was repetitive and overly bloated, there was plenty of content. Adding the RPG elements made it pretty different than what came before it, so it breathed some fresh air into it all.

However, they made the modern day elements much weaker than the stuff with Miles, and I was quite a bit disappointed that the stealth elements had been severely nuked. One hit kills determined not by being just stealthy but based on your level? Ridiculous when you consider the series history.

1st movie: Fine execution of star wars tropes, Kylo Ren actually interesting character commentary on a lot of toxic fans. Good castings, good effects.

2nd movie: Baller visual language, does interesting things to the formula, has real balls, remembers that the star wars movies are about fighting an oppressor.

3rd movie: Never saw it. Heard Ray turns out to be a Skywalker and that Palpatine is back. That sounds like it sucks.

Tbh, the prequel trilogy really wasn't that bad. The story itself was great with alot of depth and lore to expore. It's just the abysmal writing and dialogue that screwed it over mostly. Along with nobody alongside Lucas anymore to tell him no.

Hell discussion videos of the prequals are common even today.

The sequel trilogy though? Nothing.

Some excellent set pieces like the crashed Death Star and other ships. Those were fun and interesting.

Have to ignore the fact that both Death Stars blew up in gigantic explosions of course and shouldn't have such intact debris, but you know.

And while I Loathe Entirely the hyperspace ramming, it was one of the coolest looking things I've seen on screen.

TFA was really fun.

TLJ was a legitimately great film that set the series in an exciting and open-ended direction.

The scene in RoS where a lightsaber essentially got teleported was neat.

My main problem with the sequel trilogy is the lack of proper planning and the director whiplash. The death of Carrie Fisher made things a bit more difficult if RoS was truly going to be her movie, but that's nobody's fault.

Rose and Finn did not deserve to get screwed as they did.

TLJ is the real problem compared to every other dumb decision in the sequel trilogy.

The movie literally stops dead for a low speed chase that depends on relative speeds and turbolaser limitations.
