Just rewatched Iron Man 3

Everyone else that got their own movies (cap, thor, ant man, guardians, etc) all had interesting characters to work with but the Iron Man movies seem dull in comparison

War machine is a meh side kick. Captain america has winter soldier and falcon. Thor has loki and even Jane who is better. Ant man had his crew plus hank pym....wasp kind of sucks. Black Panther has the rest of the Wakandans

Pepper is good, they have their chemistry.

2 of the villains are 2 of the worst in the MCU and Jeff Bridges is fine

Tony Stark may have had the best run of any MCU character but his own movies didnt do much for him

IMO they should have introduced Riri to the MCU earlier so she could have been his sidekick/protege character instead of Peter. Even if she doesn't properly become Ironheart until after his death.

EDIT: Actually, looking it up, I didn't know Riri was only introduced to the comics in 2016. So I guess I can understand not including a character who didn't exist yet in the MCU at the time lol

His movies were very try hard at making Tony as relatable as possible. Which is probably why every movie progressively up to 3 went out of its way to strip him of all his wealth and resources.

Tbh I don't think we'll ever get another super hero like him.

Agreed. Ironman 3 is definitely not the best movie in the MCU but its far from the worst.

Ironman 2 is a contender for being the worst, but theres enough absolute turds that its an impossible call to make, especially with the amount of duds that were in phase 4.

It has nothing to do with it being different from the comic. Every other thing in the MCU is different from the comic. They threw a away a good villain for some geek that is KILLING PEOPLE because Tony stood him him.

The Iron Man movies are the only thing out of the entire MCU that I haven't watched. If they came out today, I'd watch them since I'm heavily invested in the MCU now. But I wasn't invested back then (and not sure I even understood the MCU's concept at the time) and thought Iron Man was boring.

iron man 2 is at least a 9/10 for sam rockwell

This. Rockwell with the sleaze turned up to 11 can make any movie watchable. I found IM2 at least entertaining enough to rewatch once or twice. Honestly the only thing I can remember about IM3 is that I was one of the few people who actually liked the Mandarin twist, because it at least perked up my interest for a few minutes.

I thought whiplash was a good villain or at least I thought Mickey Rourke was great

Iron Man 3 exists only to sell merchandise.

Admittedly it's been years since I watched it, but I enjoyed Iron Man 2. Mickey Rourke felt like a threat and I won't lie, I liked the electric chain whip things. <,< It's some dude with a fucking mid-range weapon going up against a badass superhero in the most advanced combat suit ever made.

Only Iron Man I mildly enjoyed was the first one. His movies and the character itself were easily the least enjoyable that I watched of the MCU. Even the worst Thor movies were better

I honestly think RDJ was good enough to make IM2 and 3 enjoyable and not the worst MCU movies off his character alone.

The thing with Iron-Man 3 is that the Mandarin twist isn't even bad in theory, and it's actually kind of unique and forward thinking for an MCU movie.

You have this decoy villain who's the leader of a terrorist organization...only for the real villain to be revealed as a corporate exec who's pulling the strings behind the scenes for the sake of war profiteering. That feels very Robocop-ish to me.

The problem is that a) the decoy villain was actually more interesting and entertaining than the villain we actually got and b) Aldrich Killian, in execution, is basically NO different from Obadiah Stane and Justin Hammer, except he's not anywhere close to being as fun to watch

it would be cool if he stayed to carry the mcu. his little group could be Strange, Spider Man and Riri and Shuri Ironman 4 could even be a Wakanda adventure. Sucks when the best guy leaves. He made the most of those movies but IM3 is straight butthole

Butchering or not delivering enough for Iron Man stuff seems pretty on par for MCU stuff.

IM 2 really wasted Justin Hammer and he just hasn't come back since despite being one of the strong points of that movie, and IM3 went whack with Extremis and the Mandarin.

Like you can really tell Iron Man is successful purely off of Robert Downey Jr, and not really anything he had to work with.

Though War Machine is fine, because he's intended to basically be a straight man Tony can work off of. Yeah he isn't super interesting, but he isn't really supposed to be, which matches the whole MCU vibe of "Focus entirely on Iron Man, and don't worry about what else happens"

And I think IM3's story of Tony trying to deal with basically PTSD from the first Avengers movie is so much more interesting than IM2's "nothing much" story that basically feels like it could have been a filler arc in the comics.

I think it's been confirmed that he's going to be appearing in the new Armor Wars movie with Don Cheadle.

after rewatching them both, i enjoy 2 more than 3. i even liked 2 less when i first saw it, but it's actually really not that bad of a movie, and it's interesting.

i wouldn't even necessarily call 3 a bad movie either. but 2 is better than it.

Not that I watch movies or tv like this but iron man 3 may be the most skippable entry in the mcu. Next to nothing affects the future....which is fine, just a thought

Iron Man 2 is better than IM3 for a number of reasons. The 'twist' in IM3 is very dumb. Also, child actors never make a movie better, only worse. The whole scene in the end with 40 different Iron Man suits was certified silly as hell. The whole "Tony vs. PTSD" subplot was basically a rehash of IM2 but the opposite, where instead of slowly dying and taking increasingly stupid risks, he was super traumatized but still took stupid risks?

At least IM2 was mostly fun and knew how silly it was. IM3 seemed to think it was super creative and clever, but it wasn't.

Well, truth be told, Civil War was a continuation of Cap's arc involving Bucky. The very act of the Sokovia Accords places him in direct contention with the UN and Tony. His contention splits the Avengers, but the story isn't directly an Avengers movie. It's just another cool MCU perk of being able to incorporate supporting characters within a larger story. Also, the Avengers stories normally pit the group against a common foe, but in Civil War's circumstance, there was no unifying common enemy. So Civil War as a Cap lead contention to the accords and registration. Infinity War and Endgame as Avengers films that pit them against a common foe in different locations.
