I'm replaying OOT and I remember this place being a confusing mess of tunnels and weird fire mazes.
Everyone talks about the Water Temple, this was my personal Water Temple.
Turns out it's actually pretty linear. The what-if-I-missed-a-small-key-and-have-to-go-back paranoia is still there but I still just swept the thing in what, half an hour?

And also I really cannot re-adjust to finding items without defeating a miniboss first, it feels bizarre.
I do like that feeling of "Oh it's a big chest but it's probably the compass or something." followed by it giving you the item you want though.

fire temple is the most linear dungeon in the game, every key is almost immediately used in the very next lock and there are pretty much no branching paths you just go straight up the tower

I guess shadow temple is like this too

Yeah OoT dungeon is mostly about just finding which room is next. Not sure if there is a single dungeon that doesn't fall into this category aside from going as far as to change loading zones. Not entirely all that imaginative or interesting imo

I feel like every dungeon in every game falls into that category, if that's how you want to put it.

Agreed.
I just sat here and listened to 1.2 music on my game for 10 minutes.
The more I listen to it, the more it sounds like it should be playing at the Shadow Temple. Original makes it sound like there's a ritual taking place before they start offering Gorons to the dragon.

Boss kinda sucks. Too much waiting.

I think it's weird King Dodongo and Volvagia get their own volcano themed boss fight theme though.
Meanwhile Phantom Ganon and Twinrova are sharing a boss theme with Gohma and Barinade.
That seems like something a re-release would want to change.

Also, is Darunia dead?
He went to fight Volvagia and the next time I see him, he's in the Chamber of the Sages talking about destiny and fire spirits.
What exactly is Link doing to these people when he 'helps them awaken as sages'?

It's a theory, but never directly stated. We also see them present in the real world in the ending, so if they're 'dead' they aren't actually dead.

Isn't the only scene with them in the credits when they are together on Death mountain I think, not interacting with any other non-sage characters? Cause that could just be them as spirits overlooking Hyrule or whatever.

I was getting that vibe. With Darunia it's obvious, wonder what happens to everyone else.
A while ago I called Saria and she goes "At first, I didn't want to become the Sage of the Forest.... But I'm glad now."
You know, the sort of thing you'd say if something had taken over your body and mind and was uncannily attempting to beckon more victims in.

Then she goes "Because I'm helping you to save Hyrule" and the freaky vibe downgrades to regular weird.

They were the balls of light that were seen at the party in Lon Lon Ranch. I don't see any reason to interpret it in any way other than as it's shown and stated. It's not like Zelda, as a series, is shy about death. There are zombies, mummies, and skeletons in this game. Not to mention the whole shadow temple.

I just finished the game.
Right before they banish Ganon (And turn him back into Ganondorf somehow?) Rauru says something like "Ancient creators of Hyrule, open the sacred realm."

That's either one, him talking to the three that make up the Triforce, or two, it means the sages. This almost makes it sound like when Link awakens a sage, he reminds an ancient being of its real nature, that Darunia or Ruto or whatever were just fake identities assumed to blend in with the normal people.

There's the colored fires at the Lon Lon Ranch celebration and the appearing on a mountain all mysterious part too. (Although it does look similar to the way Link warps with the songs.)
Maybe it's less that they're dead and more that they never were who they thought they were.

No, it's been about four or five days. I took it slow.
Since this is the game people go crazy for I tried to give it the kind of fair shake with more fairness and less shaking. Filled the inventory, all hearts, Biggoron's Sword, most upgrades.

I've come to view it as a reincarnation kind of thing. There are already slots in the Temple of Light for the other Sages to stand, which suggests that they have existed before. My interpretation of that is that the "sage" power is everlasting, but needs an avatar of some kind to enact its will. Hence, when someone enters the temple and is worthy of the power, they eventually become the Sage. That's an alternate explanation for why every Sage seems to 'die' before they transcend. It's because they either entered the Temple of their own bravery or got dragged there as a captive, and then became attuned to its energies and awakened to a higher plane of existence.

For example, Nabooru is never shown to have died. Last time we saw her, she was being transported away by the witches a second time. The witches said something about brainwashing her again, which strongly suggests that she's still alive at the time, just like before. There's also no reason to think Impa died, either. I can see the case for Darunia and Ruto, given that they were both confronting the temple bosses when they ascended, at least.

Also, Zelda is a sage as well, and she definitely never died. It's an interesting theory, but I think people are underestimating the overt darkness of OoT's themes--if the sages were dead, the story would probably just say so at some point.
