Can't find a job to save my life. I don't have a college degree but have years of work experience and a defined, diverse skillset. Every entry-level "career"-type job in my area is now requiring a Bachelor's degree and years of experience in the same job, and when I last had an interview, the owner flat-out accused me of lying.

Food service, retail and warehouse jobs in my area are now stingy about hiring full-time employees because they don't want to provide them with benefits. Also the pay is so low it wouldn't make a difference considering bills are getting more expensive and I have a lot of credit card debt.

The worst thing is even if I lied on my resume about having an Associate's degree, or some degree from a defunt technical school, it wouldn't even matter. What do I do? It goes without saying but there aren't any remote/WFH job listings that aren't blatant ploys to get you signed up for a temp agency that strings you along and floods your inbox with spam.

I worked with someone who lied about having a college degree to get an entry-level data entry job and they ended up getting fired a few months into it. I have horrible anxiety so while it'd be a bit of a hail mary pass, I can't help but think I'd be perpetually paranoid.

Might as well. Worst case scenario you get a few months of pay and then get fired

The key is to knowing what you can lie about and what you can't. Lying about a degree is not smart cause that is easily checked

Lying about your role and making it seem more important than it is is one that people get away with

Hell you can even make up references as long as you trust the person you're going to have talk to them

lying about an entire degree is just asking for trouble, thats way too big of a stretch

worst I saw was a guy that lied about having years of experience as a sushi chef, less than an hour into his shift it was obvious he had never once made a sushi roll in his life

I couldn't even do that because these jobs are now requiring Bachelor's degrees. Even if I lied and said I had an Associate's degree, it wouldn't be enough.

I thought everyone padded their resume.

I always use past jobs and "bump up" my tenure at the place, and my responsibilities.

If it's a place with a thousand or more employees a lot of the resume process is going to be automated. So all you really need or want to do is throw in all the buzzwords that the AI script wants to see. Puffing up your responsibilities a bit with vague language of importance can help too; sort of like an infomercial for your self. Lies of omission or obfuscation can help too. E.g. if possible only list the year for starting and stopping your last job, especially if the stopping point is this year. If they ask for availability list yourself as being open 24/7, as anything else often gets you filtered out by the AI. You can always change that once you're hired and past the probationary period.
