It's not competing with my current job, but rather with other jobs I expect to get accepted to. One in particular, which is in industry and is paid accordingly. The work I'd be doing in that job would be somewhat more interesting too. What this job has going for it is the chance to do research in a field that does genuinely not only interest me but also gives me the opportunity to make a difference, home office and the fact that I'd be somewhere with a really low cost of living for the next five years at least.
