He is, kind of weirdly, Terra's ~~first possible romantic love interest.~~ Which is a major theme of the game. He's also obviously a large basis for Beatrix' character. It's hard to tell if he's a good person on the wrong side of the war, or a soldier knowingly fighting for a bad cause but with a strong sense of honor. Dude tried to get Gesthal and Kefka to peacefully stop the wars. Dude was able to put aside past differences to work together for the common good. And he got fucking ~~murdered~~ for it, right at the high point of relations between the Returners and the Empire when things were falling apart for the whole world with dangerous creatures loose. There's one line in the game where the VA briefly breaks character and talks in a normal voice (iirc it's right after Kimahri attacks Tidus, and Yuna laughs warmly and says "sometimes we don't understand Kimahri either!"). I've always found myself wondering how much things could've been improved if the actress had just used (what I reasonably assume to be) her normal voice; imo she could have still sold Yuna's innocence and quiet resignation perfectly well while adding some needed warmth and personality to the role. Still, I stand by my earlier assertion that she has one of the best plot arcs in the franchise.
