I keep thinking about this lately.
Around Melee and Brawl, he was the on top of the world.
People were yelling "FALCON PUNCH!" and "SHOW ME YA MOVES!", a few people even memorised the Japanese line Black Shadow says in the anime to amp the Falcon Punch up even more.

And then Captain Falcon just fell off. He disappeared into the Smash crowd and now he's getting torched in opening cutscenes and thrown off mountains in DLC reveal trailers.
How did this happen?

You either die a meme or live long enough to become...wait who were we talking about?

You can only coast off of a dozen words of material with no new content for so long.

He just hasn't been the same since his sextape leaked. Kinda ruined his reputation tbh

He hasn't had his own new video game in nearly 20 years.

At what point did the magic die though?

Was the writing on the wall as soon as Snake showed up and Falcon was no longer the only adult man sized action hero in a game full of cartoon characters?

Did they straight up kill him in Smash 4 when they had him in a trailer doing nothing cool, struggling to hold his own against a clone and graduate from the Ethan Winters institute of being boring?

Smash 4 absolutely did not do him in. One of the biggest Smash 4 pre-release memes was that Falcon literally punched Chrom out of the roster.

I think people have just slowly moved on.

Smash roster got too huge. He got lost in the crowd.

The magic is still there for me, been maining him for over 20 years at this point

Sean Connery saying "You're the man now, dog" was a huge thing on the Internet for years, too. When was the last time you went to ytmnd.com?

He's just a Smash character now. One of the characters people tend to get more excited about when Fatality does well with him or he makes it deep into a Melee bracket. But his meme existence was always destined to be fleeting, and there's no source of new content to fuel it, as already said.

That's sad.
Mr Zero didn't get to interview him one last time at the end.
He didn't get a chance to pass the title on.
He might have never gotten to see the moves he wanted to be shown.

He officially died in Falcon and Winter Soldier when a reporter asked Sam Wilson if his new superhero name would be 'Captain Falcon.'

I bet in the next smash ganondorf will have a completely revamped moveset and model to match totk and the existing ganondorf will become black shadow

He was promoted to Admiral Falcon and became incompetent and/or evil
