Seems like it being served at second degree level is pretty hot.

... Yes? Why wouldn't they cut absolutely every corner when possible? Doubly so since McDonalds isn't even a large food chain, it's a large food franchise. They are in the real-estate industry, not the food.

Sorry but I find this a little hard to believe. Second degree burns from a chicken nugget? They're usually already cold by the time you start eating them.

Which thing? McDonalds is pretty famous for their talk about being a real-estate agency. It's, like, their thing: https://1851franchise.com/why-is-mcdonalds-considered-a-real-estate-company-2715077

It's also why McDonalds restaurants are losing money hand over fist but McDonalds corporation itself is raking it in: the actual act of selling food is absolutely and completely unrelated to McDonalds as a company. It is Economics applied. Why actually have a product when you can make money by others having one?

This. How the hell did the nuggets get hot enough to cause second degree burns?

If a chicken nugget was hot enough to cause second degree burns then that thing would be blaring hot, sizzling, and burnt long before it made it close to that kid's mouth. An attentive parent would have definitely noticed that the box of nuggets felt like a miniature sun in their hands.

Was the nugget still dipped in oil when the kid ate it? When I would do food safety there the temp for nuggets is between 165-175 and they would start cooling down as soon as they came out of the oil

I did believe the family at first with the limited information that we had since the number was so low. However I have since changed my mind since I voted. I have grabbed a chicken wing that came out of the fryer with my hand it was very hot. So I was thinking of something like that. However by time the nuggets are put in the box, put in the bag, given to the family, taken to the table or car. It will not be that piping hot anymore.

And that not even getting into how rare it is to have hot food at McDs .

My little nephew was over today and got hungry after the adults had already eaten. I usually keep my deep frier on standby for the kids, and I dropped some chicken nuggets for 5 minutes. I literally dumped them on a paper plate along with some older fries and a half ear of corn. I just told him to eat the other food while the nuggets cooled off.

He's 6 years old and figured that out without even complaining.

So I call shannanigans on this story.

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/mcdonalds-found-liable-for-girls-burns-from-chicken-nuggets/

McDonalds is to blame for not warning customers about the dangers of its overheated Chicken McNuggets, one of which fell on a little girls lap and left her with second-degree burns on her upper thigh in 2019, a Florida jury ruled Thursday.
A second jury will be empaneled to decide how much McDonalds and its franchise operator will be ordered to pay.
The jurys decision came after two days of testimony and arguments about what happened to a 4-year-old girl in August 2019 and who was responsible. The girls mother, Philana Holmes, testified that she bought Happy Meals for her son and daughter at a Tamarac, Florida, McDonalds, receiving no warning that the food might be unusually hot. After receiving the food from the drive-thru window, Holmes said she handed the food to her daughter and son in the back seat and drove away.
When a piece of chicken fell on her daughters leg, Holmes said she did not realize at first why her daughter was screaming. The girl, identified in court as Olivia, is autistic and did not testify during the trial. Holmes said she pulled into a nearby parking lot to help the child. Thats when she noticed the burn.

My young son is also autistic. I know with every ounce of my being that if a hot chicken nugget fell on his leg he would swat it away instead of screaming and not doing anything. There is something fishy about this story, for real. I'm not saying child abuse but I wouldn't be surprised.

If they were in the car, it's safe to assume that the four year old girl was in a car seat. It could be that the nugget fell in a way that it couldn't be swatted away. Maybe it landed between the seat and her thigh, effectively compressing the hot oil into her flesh.

Their story is bullshit. Even if these people ordered fresh nuggets, the time it takes to get it from the fryer, to the table, to the box, to the bagger, into the bag, and out the window/parking lot is going to cool that shit down to a non-second degree burn level.

This is indeed what they're saying happened.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liebeck_v._McDonald's_Restaurants
The Liebeck case became a flashpoint in the debate in the United States over tort reform. It was cited by some as an example of frivolous litigation;[5] ABC News called the case "the poster child of excessive lawsuits",[6] while the legal scholar Jonathan Turley argued that the claim was "a meaningful and worthy lawsuit".[7] Ex-attorney Susan Saladoff sees the portrayal in the media as purposeful misrepresentation due to political and corporate influence.[8] In June 2011, HBO premiered Hot Coffee, a documentary that discussed in depth how the Liebeck case has centered in debates on tort reform.[9]
