Glass half empty: lower opening

Glass half full: higher than the presales estimate and did really well internationally

Still early to say. It most likely wont pass vol 2

Probably gonna do well on word of mouth. Last few big hyped MCU movies werent that great but nearly everyone is calling this one of the best in the entire MCU.

Or more people are fine with just waiting an extra couple months for Disney+ since an outing to the theater for even two people can easily top $100 nowadays

Doesn't help that they been having a streak of bad word of mouth movies and shows in a row and along with a super hero fatigue will probably make it so that less people will see the films.

GOTG 3 was a great movie.

It feels separated from Marvel and that helps it. I think having an established director that can tell Marvel to fuck off on certain things really allowed him to make these movies great. Its the only marvel franchise that has 3 stellar movies that have made every character shine.

GOTG3 was fantastic, but I thought it was generally accepted that GOTG2 was a rather weak entry?

nah its still considered one of the better marvel movies. Its weaker than the other 2 but if we're comparing them to other marvel movies. 1 and 3 are 10/10 and 2 is like 8/10.

Ill never understand this obsession that people have with how much money a movie makes.

I could see you were involved in making it and got a percentage of that or something. But otherwise, what difference does it make?

This.

Between that, Love and Thunder, and half the D+ shows, I don't blame people for getting tired of watching mediocre content just to be caught up on the lore.

Ant-Man 3 on paper sounded like a great movie, but it was handled so generically and felt like a filler episode by the end of it, I really didn't have hope for GotG3 either.

Honestly this. I thought my first mistake was watching Quantumania in Imax, which was a very bad idea when I watched Avatar 2, but even on the second re-watch the movie was just a mess in general. Sure Jonathan Majors gave it his all with Kang, but he was still treated like a throwaway MCU villain. Unlike Thanos, I didn't have any sense of fear at all when he was on screen and it didn't help he got jobbed by Ants. It was clear that the movie's only purpose was to kick start Phase 5, but you can at least make a decent movie and still do that.

Jonathan Majors did a great job, yeah, but the movie itself was definitely poorly structured. One of the MCU movies that feels like it was just pumped out by a machine rather than by real writers.

The comparison with Thanos is a good one, because I feel like the reality of why he comes off more threatening is obvious: we actually see Thanos do stuff. In his first scene, he kills two main characters, bodies a third, and leaves a fourth to die. Meanwhile, Kang is just alluded to for half his film and most of his feats are only informed or implied. The characters tell us to fear him, while Thanos demonstrated to us why we should fear him. Same with the High Evolutionary, and why he's a better
written villain than Kang as well.

I honestly don't know how they messed up Kang's true introduction how they did.

You're right about it being so obvious that I never really put much thought into it lol. But yeah we actually get to see Thanos being a threat while Kang was just all hype no action. If anything, I wouldn't mind High Evolutionary to be the real big bad than Kang at this point lol. They both have similar powers as well.
