oh, damn. Houston most likely, after those expansion rumors a couple months ago? maybe Portland or KC? I know Quebec would be a lot of people's hope, but i really don't want to see detroit go back to the west.

I think top possibilities, as of cities that have been in the mix for many years, Houston, QC, Hamilton would be the top 3 imo. Hartford, Kansas City, Portland possible suitors also, but I think another Canada market is a lock for success. When Atlanta moved to Winnipeg, they sold out of season tickets 12 years in advance in the first couple weeks, considering the financial hellscape Arizona has been, i'd think they would move them to a basic guaranteed successful market for hockey.

i'd love an 8th canadian team, i just don't want them in the east. and since none of the other eastern teams are really threatening to move anymore (at least until Miami sucks for a while in a row again), that'd mean detroit would have to move to the central.

would much rather keep the yotes in the west, and look to add Quebec in when the league jumps to 36.

I personally don't want Detroit to move back West again, although resparking a rivalry with Chicago while both are rebuilding would be fun.

A lot of talk about Salt Lake and Atlanta on other boards right now as options, Atlanta was a failure with the Thrashers and no one cared, I don't even know why that would be an option again outside of them already having an arena to use and the minor league system in Gwinnett. I lived two roads up from the practice arena when I lived there, maybe a dozen people showed up to practice, guys like Kovalchuk and Holik would hang out and talk to the fans, give us pucks and autographs, I have about three dozen things signed by a bunch of the old Thrashers.

But point being, no one cared, no one showed up, you saw more GA Bulldogs gear, by far, than Thrashers stuff around town.

I wouldn't mind KC, it would be another option within driving distance for me to go to games at, right now when I attend it's mostly Nashville and Carolina, I usually go to 6-7 Preds games and 2 or 3 Canes games per season.

I for one hope the NHL gets bold and moves the Coyotes and becomes the Tijuana Scorpions.

Kansas City only works if they can get one built, and given the Royals will be getting a new ballpark at some point in the near future I don't see there being much appetite for an arena.

you're not wrong, an agreement for a new arena will be pretty much mandatory for anywhere they'd go. besides possibly some of the NBA arenas, i don't think there are any viable NHL ready buildings sitting idle.

but i'd imagine there are 500 cities with an arena at least comparable to the one they're in now, in the short term.

Yeah agreed, most of the issues with the Coyotes have been arena issues, having a permanent place to play. I don't know if KC would roll the dice to build an arena and see if hockey works there. I think it would, but St. Louis is already there and I don't know if Missouri is a two hockey team kind of state.

Correct. Kansas City does have an arena currently that beats out Mullett.

Houston is the only, real viable option with a current arena that can suit an NHL team (the Aeros played at the Toyota Center for a decade and it can hold almost 18k for hockey).

Remember seeing this less than a month ago, some NHL guys like Weekes and Strickland been tweeting the last hour about Salt Lake also.

The issue is the Coyotes are in shambles, they are a bad team, with a poorly structured future, and not much sign of any improvement. They aren't going to move and be a playoff team in two seasons, there's gonna be some down time, drafts, trades, and a lot of time, work, and patience. They gotta go somewhere that the fans will tolerate that for however many seasons, and not a city where they are going to need to build a new stadium for a losing team.

My top "wants" would be Kansas City or Quebec. Realistically I think they are going to land in Houston or Salt Lake.

Huge year for my (as in my city's team) Kraken. City has been so electric over them.

And the team rewarded us in their 2nd year with :

14 playoff games
7 wins
6 home games. (including an OT winner and an elimination game win).

Been one amazing out of nowhere season. Can't wait for year 3.
