Board 8 > Formatting question: Song title first, or source of the song?

Not asking for how it would be cited in a bibliography or whatever. If you see a song name, which would you prefer to see?

Metallica - Enter Sandman
Enter Sandman - Metallica

The Legend of Zelda - Main Theme
Main Theme - The Legend of Zelda

I used to do Song - Artist. Now I generally do Artist - Song, but Song - Artist doesn't bother me and I occasionally slip into it.

This kind of depends on the context/formatting of where it's being posted.

This came up when I was looking at a list of video game music, about 15 songs in a row, and they were all listed Song - Game. I found it incredibly difficult to parse because in that situation, what game the song is from is far more valuable than if it's called "Main Theme" or whatever. Most VGM uploaders write Game - Song, but a few do Song - Game and it sticks out like a sort thumb to me.

However, since not everyone here listens to primarily game music, it only made sense to extend the argument into mainstream music as well, where if you remember the days of naming files, you'd get stuff like Justin_Timberlake_-_The_Essential_Ballads_-_01_-_Cry_Me_A_River.mp3. Obviously that formatting is hardly relevant any more except as a legacy, but I still think it makes more sense to list the source before the title because it gives you a starting place, even if you aren't sorting your song library.

Artist/larger work first. Same goes for TV show - episode.

It's a much better format so people see the larger subject first. If they don't know the song, they might gloss over it.
