I got a new cutscene for starting after having beaten the game years ago. Richard's telling me some "Oh ho ho you RETURNED did you, well you already know how this goes down so..." clairvoyance threat stuff.

It didn't fully break the "if it ain't broke..." rule but it wasn't as memorable or fun as the first game :/

Oh thing I need to do this run is use the lock on. I only found out it existed halfway into hard mode when I first played. And hard mode disables the lock on.

I was using Tony for the first level so it wouldn't have done much but I got a Pardo level coming up.

Edit: Well it's not gonna get me any high scores but it feels nice being able to lock on, duck out and throw something for a knockdown.

I always appreciated how this game's difficulty picked up right where the first game left off. Like they figured they were fairly niche and anyone playing 2 had already played 1 so they give you one easy level then into the deep end you go.

I like Evan's gameplay a lot. They still get a little crazy with the shotgun guys firing from off screen but since you get no guns of your own as him, the game has to rein it in a little.

You know say what you will about 1's level design hard carrying it but I love this stupid OP flamethrower.
Even if 2 boils down to shooting once so they all hear and come running, this still makes that pretty satisfying.

It legit feels like Alex and Ash were designed less to mix melee with shooting and more to have a gun as a noisemaker to attract enemies.

I wish you could unlock the ability to use any character in any level.
Feels like a devolution after HM1 was just pick a level then pick any mask.

And done. The shine has come off a bit.
When I first played this it was brand new, I was racing someone who got a headstart on me, there were achievements to chase and there was a plot to try and understand.
Without those as incentives this does go further into frustrating territory than I'd like. Sometimes (Often) you just get one-shotted from off screen. It's not enough that an enemy type resists melee, they also get to keep going a few seconds after being a shot unless you keep spending ammo. There's guys you have to melee, both kinds detract from the gameplay the first game had going. Sometimes it slows down to the point it feels like a puzzle game.

Music is still great, there's levels unscathed by the window/gun only/melee only epidemic, Evan's gameplay is great, the flamethrower is the best, I still enjoy the characters and I like how all the pieces fit round HM1.
Again though I don't see the point in quarantining things off in certain levels, I think once you've done a lap or beaten hard mode, the game should take the restrictions off and let you play as any character/loadout in any level.
I feel like you could get a lot of what this game's offering on Youtube. Last time I checked there were some pretty great lore videos.
