They just love making stupid ass changes to feel like they did something without considering the logistics at all. Like for an example my company just changed the rules about trays, before they never wanted servers to use tray now its required for drinks (not plates though) even if it's just 1 drink, just why? Also we used to have a simple napkin fold but they had to redo the fold so it takes twice as long and now we run out all the time because of how much longer it takes. Like why just go around fucking with things for no reason?

The lonestar steakhouse I worked for decided to change uniforms twice in three months and expected us to pay for them. All thanks to corporate. This was as the company was failing and servers weren't making anything

First we had shirts that said Lonestar on them that they paid for. Then they wanted us to get classy, buy black button up shirts and black pants. Then they decided no it's a saloon style restaurant, we need western style shirts with pearl snap buttons.

Then they decided they were going to save the company with new menu items. Their ideas were walking tacos, footlong hot dogs, meatloaf, and fried okra. One our servers kept telling people we had fried orca

Anyway I'm just agreeing with you. Corporate is always out of touch in the restaurant industry

Once you reach a certain height, the only place left for your head to go is up your own ass.

Corporate logic:

-Make a change that adds 30 seconds of work every hour
-no big deal, productivity not affected
-gee let's do another
-how about another extra 30 second task
-repeat infinitely
-never ever make a change that would speed up the workflow even a little bit
-"golly why is everybody so behind and burnt out we used to be able to do this much work without issue"

Can't speak for service, but in my experience someone looks at the bottom line, sees something they don't like, then comes up with crazy ideas to "fix" them. Half the time I am telling my employees "Yes, this is stupid, just go with it for a few months so they will realize how stupid it is and change it back."

Every few months, the corporate head of my department comes in and asks us to start cold-packing and selling items that barely sell at all at our store, unlike other store locations. Never mind the time and energy added to making the extra food, walking that extra into the walk-in fridge, or cleaning the extra pans we need for other things. Then it barely sells, if even that, and the daily production sheet once again declines to mention those same few items by the end of the first month. Then a couple months or more pass and the same woman comes by and passes down the idea of doing the same stupid thing.

Meanwhile, I have been asking corporate for years to change our posted menu that looks needlessly esoteric and raises too many questions, complicating simple orders when simple customers are like "I want to build a meal," which means totally NOT whatever they think it does. Or people go dumb on the entree combos and miscount the entree items when, clearest of all on the damned menu, it's stated every combo including the one-entree ones comes with a side of rice or chow mein; like do the Kindergarten level arithmetic! But no, after a couple years of pointing this out in surveys and memos, no change has happened to the menu. A simple redesign would save us, and other store locations, on productivity, while making the simple customers happier since they could just take in just enough information, use it, and carry on with their simple lives. The previous menu was better, but one detail became irrelevant, and hjiknrwegflpohikgbjuwsdgfkljghsadfghkjgb corporate heads!

Yeah the bank I work for has invested five years and tens of millions implementing new software from Salesforce and it's excruciatingly slow. Simple things like unlocking online banking went from three clicks in five seconds to a twelve step process that takes five to ten seconds to load between each step. Then they're like wHy iS eVeRyOnEs hAnDle tImE dOuBLiNg, and then their solution is reducing available vacation time. So I have like half my vacation days I can't use and can't roll over because they need the staffing to compensate for the extra work

they really dont know what they are doing

They don't interact with commoners

This is why AI can easily replace them

because at every level, in all industries, most people are very stupid

Their job is to change things and they don't know as well as the workers do what should be changed.
