So few weeks back I found a shank under a inmates locker. Common area so I couldn't pin it on him. Well the other day he had another shank and stabbed someone. Thing is the shank was dull and barely did damage. The one I found was much sharper. I'm guessing he was pressed for time (I assume gang bullshit) and didnt have time to sharpen the new one as much. And it was premeditated as he went into a area he wasn't authorized to be in just to stab dude.

Did you report the original shank to anyone? You might have been able to prevent the second stabbing if they were able to fingerprint the original one.

That would be funny as dude is short as fuck

Side note napoleon complex is real. Never knew so many short men existed till I worked in a prison. That goes for both officers and inmates

I did. They don't fingerprint that shit. We don't have the equipment and Cops can barely be bothered to handle a small drug bust coming from a prison. Like they legit get mad at us if they feel the amount is small despite policy saying "no matter how little any controlled substance shall be turned over to local law enforcement"

I highly doubt they would get it far enough to get a prison shank fingerprinted, incidents like that don't reach those levels at prisons at all.

No plus they tend to use torn up clothing as a handle which ain't gonna hold a fingerprint. If it was used in an attack and the assailant got away somehow (unlikely with cameras) but we got the shank THEN maybe

I've never had a problem out of him. Like I know his name but not his face. Which means he keeps a low profile and doesn't cause problems. Not everyone in prison is scum

The other dude had never caused me problems either but he was one of those you just had that feeling he was trouble. And well he proved my gut feeling right.

Somebody has to do it. Best paying job you can it in this small town and I'm 3rd Gen so I feel it's in my blood at this point.

My unit is relatively safe. I've been he almost 4 years and I can count on one hand how many times someone's been stabbed. One hand how many times a officer has been assaulted and in almost every Cas the officer was being a asshole. And I've only seen 2 inmates die both times drugs.

Though we did send one to the hospital last night and they say it's unlikely he'll make it. And I was ontop of that situation asap. He shoulda never came to our unit it's not equipped for people with severe medical problems. We where pissed off and calling the capitol over it the day he came in trying to get him somewhere that has actual medical facilities on the unit. All we got is nurses.

Prison. I work with people that have done both and they all say the same. More fights in jail by a long shot but when it goes down in prison it tends to be far more serious

Hey especially considering we ain't a unit equipped with real medical facilities it's part of our job to make sure these fuckers stay alive cause they die here it's either they where killed or overdosed 99% of the time and that's a headache none of us want.

Plus it ain't our job to decide if they live or die in prison. that was the judges call. I've been friends with ex inmates before they are people too. Most of em anyways

Random off topic slightly. Almost felt bad last night had to pack one up to send to seg for back log (seg stays full so less serious charges they get put on a list and they will serve seg time later) and I asked the kid what did he do to go to seg and he reminded me that it was I who busted him for buck.

I almost feel bad for two reasons. I busted him before he even before he even got to drink a sip so he didn't even get to enjoy it and I woulda never busted him had he not been stupid. I was looking for someone else so my focus was elsewhere but he panicked when he saw me and made it obvious he was trying to hide the bottle he was holding.

The shank? Yeah. I'm supposed to turn it over to a Sgt but I learned long ago they don't care you get no accolades and if anything thr Sgt is annoyed you even bother him with it. So yeah i take em home now.

First time I ever found a shank the Sgt didnt even tell the OIC (officer in charge aka LT. Or captain) for the longest time I was so disappointed by that I stopped looking for them but one day it just clicked. Fuck em I'm gonna do my job because it just might save someone's life. Fuck the accolades or whatever

I'm very open about it. There is another guy that said he used to.

It's a weird job it's both the easiest and hardest job I've ever had. Most days it's easy as fuck. Walk around tell some inmates to fix this or that where they are out of policy then sit on your ass. They don't listen just putbsome paperwork on them. But when shit hits the fan it gets rough. Or like last night shit didnt hit the fan but we had to pack up 24 inmates to ship out. I was packing their property for 3 hours straight and I only did 6 of them. Doesn't sound that bad but when you've grown accustomed to sitting on your ass most of the night.... then the headache of telling them they ain't supposed to have this or that so they gotta get rid of it.

Yes. And no I don't. Not usually anyways. My gut feeling dictates 90% of what I do. Every now and then I get the feeling shit ain't worth it so I back off. But even then I wouldn't say I'm nervous I just had a gut feeling and listened to it.

Back when i was new. I was scared as fuck not gonna lie. But you gain this ability to read the energy of a room. It's hard to describe. It's just like you can almost just tell when shit ain't right. Like me and a CO worker was talking one day and both of us noticed the dorm was way quieter than normal. The inmates where behaving way better than normal and furthermore hardly anyone was taking showers.

I found a decent amount of buck in the shower.

Then there was a case before I hired on. My mom worked there then. Officer got stabbed 27 times. Mybmom said she had noticed the whole unit was eerily quiet before it happened. It was a planned hit on the officer and all the inmates knew it was going to happen.

Things being too quiet is almost always a bad sign. So you learn to be waaay more alert if that's the case.

Edit: sorry went on a tangent there. Every unit has murderers. They are people too. Not condoning it but most murders have a reason behind it. Not that they simply felt like killing someone. I used to be friends with a murderer. He was a nice guy but trust that I tried to not piss him off too badly.

We have a guy in who killed his father. In reality he's actually really shy and timid. His father must have really really pushed his buttons

I don't know thr process for making alcohol but thr shit gets them drunk. It's just a roll of the dice on if the person who made it knew what the fuck they where doing on if ittl make you sick or not.

But the smell is awful. Like regular alcohol smells bad enough but this shitbis rancid smelling
